Questions

The new feature added in 29.3, that measures the area of a selected object, causes illustrator to lag and not work properly. There is no way to disable it. Every time I select the measuring tool, illustrator starts lagging (zoom tool for example gets really sluggish).  Attached is a video for example. Is there any way to disable it? I did not find any myself.I am using ver 29.5.1 

I've updated to 28.7.1 and now notice that the Export for Screens function doesn't work correctly. I did change all format settings to 'art optimised', but Illustrator still treats the exports as if I have set it to 'text optimised'. Which results in very pixelated images. When I use Safe for Web (also on art optimised) it exports the artboard as I expect it to be. Nicly anti aliased and not pixelated edges. When I use Export for Screens I get images with pixelated edges. Which is cumbersome as I now have to export each artboard individualy using Safe for Web. You can see the difference in below image (if you expand the view so see it more clearly). On the left the Safe for Web version and on the right the Export for Screens version. You can see in the red text especially how the right version has all pixelated edges around the text. Hoping for a fix in the next update? 

I am having trouble getting the text to show up in a readable format. I have my shape on the top and select my outlined text and when I "make with top object" it becomes a jumbled mess and I have messed with the Fidelity settings but that hasn't fixed my problem. I am trying to redraw a poor version of an AI logo that I client liked but correcting all the errors. I am not sure what I am missing to have it fit in the shape. 

HI everyone.  I'm trying to create a game board in Illustrator with a race track on it.  The track is no problem.  What I want in the background behind and surrounding the track is the actual Google Earth imagery that surrounds the track in real life. I orginally tried a screenshot of the entire area, but that doesn't work since the  game track I created doesn't work with the scale of the real life area around the track.  I then tried taking screenshots of parts of the area and filling them in behind my track in a different layer. This was tedious but worked well. The background maps looked nice and clear. However, I'd save my project and come back later to more on it and I find my background images had blurred some.  Can anyone tell me why they are clear when I'm workign with them and then blur later?  Since I'm taking dozens of screenshots, I delete the orginal screenshots from my computer.  Does this impact the screenshots I'm using in Illustr

In Freehand you cut paste inside (cut a larger object and paste it inside of a smaller object). How do you do this in Illustator?Thanks!

Hi, I’m looking for some guidance. I’ve uploaded a PNG into Adobe Illustrator (version 2025), and while the file is unlocked and not inside a clipping mask, I’m unable to move it freely by clicking directly on the image. I can only move it if I click on the bounding box.I’d really appreciate any help or insight into why this is happening and how to resolve it. Thank you in advance! 

Hi all! I tried a bajillion brushes and nothing is giving me the look I'm after. The attached "washmi" comes close using a handwritten font and a paint brush stroke. I'd like to be able to write "washmi" or anything else on my track pad and have it look like I wrote it on a dirty window like the "washme" image attached. I'm not sure if I need a specific brush or if my brush settings need to be altered. Please advise if you've done this before, are aware of an existing font, or have advise on how to recreate the look. Thanks!  Kico

It looks like the latest update to Illustrator has removed the file path outlined in this document: https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/recover-files-after-crash.htmlAdobe\Adobe Illustrator <version> Settings\<locale>\x64\DataRecovery The "Adobe Illustrator <version>" folder no longer exists at this location. Instead, there are version number folders within a folder Named "Adobe Illsutrator". Since my lasy update I think this has caused Illustrator to default to my desktop for Data Recovery and then gives me a "Data Recovery Disabled" message. Has anyone else had this issue? How do I fix it? 

I am working in MacOS Sonoma, using Adobe Illustrator. The challenge I am having is that I am unable to find recently created photoshop files that I need to place into illustrator. (I can see all the previous files created days or weeks before when I go to place, however I cannot see files that I have just created when I go to "place" in Illustrator) I known the photoshop files are in the folder. I can see them otherwise. I have tried restarting the computer but that has not work. I am not sure what is causing this problem. 

Is there a way to use the Minus back on the Pathfinder on mulitple serperate objects at once without it just deleting every other object/shape? I've tried everything i can think of such as seperating the top shapes and the bottom shapes into serperate layers and grouping and merging the top and bottom shapes into one shape among other methods. Despite this the Minus Back always gets rid of every other shape selected. I can't use Divide or Trim as alternatives cause they dont subtract as smooth and cleanly as Minus back for some reason. 

I'm having a terrible time with version 29.5.1 on an intel mac mini running macos 15.5. When Ai is completely idle, no file open, it runs at a constant 50-60% cpu and should I touch it like bring it to forground it jumps to 100%+ cpu utilization. This can't be right. Anyone else running into this? If so, any ideas on how to solve or debug further? Thx.

Hi all, I am having an issue with Illustrator 2021 that seemed to start up overnight. When I try to open Illustrator 2021 I get a "The operation cannot complete because of an unknown error. [CANT]" error message and then once it fully opens, it is just a gray screen and not the normal Illustrator interface. It does not respond to me trying to start a new file or save/save as anything I open. I can open previous Illustrator files and save as copy, but it is very frustrating to have to use these workarounds. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Illustrator 2021 and restarted my computer. I tried clearing the cashes, but could not use any key commands when starting the program due to the error. I have to use 2021 because of certain plug-in licenses that are not compatible with newer versions, and I can't seem to convince anyone with authority at my company to upgrade them. I tried to use Adobe Support, but I guess due to my license being part of a company wide license for Adobe, I

Bonjour,J'utilise quotidiennement Illustrator et je rencontre des difficultés à cause de bugs du logiciel. Tout d'abord, mes formes ne se ferment pas. Comme vous pouvez voir ci dessous, les tracés ne se joignent pas.  De même, lorsqu'après avoir fait un angle avec la plume, je souhaite créer un tracé droit (il faut recliquer sur le dernier point tracé pour supprimer la courbe), cela me fait une ligne en plus, vous pouvez le voir ci-dessous.  Je souhaiterai qu'une mise à jour soit faite afin de corriger les bugs, mais je ne sais pas où le signaler 😞

Would like to see the scrubby adjustment function come to the Character panel adjustments in Illustrator.  For instance, in Photoshop, when you place the cursor over any of the icons in the Character panel (ie Kerning, Tracking, Font Size etc.) and move left and right the number will adjust within the text field.  This doesn’t currently work that way in Illustrator on Mac or on PC, extra steps are needed to select the text number and adjust it. Since Photoshop and Illustrator share the same tool window design it should be an easy feature to bring over to Illustrator. The functionality works in other Adobe products that have a different UI for Character tools like After Effects.  Screen record examples attaching showing how the same action in Photoshop and Illustrator don’t produce the same result.  And besides starting a conversation here, yes I’m submitting this to USERVOICE as a feature request.   In the apps I use this WORKS in:Photo

When I search for a specific Pantone color, therused to be a 3 dot dropdown on the colors to allow you to "Add to Pallet" or "Add to swatch" etc. That is no longer available. This only seems to be on searched colors. Has anyone else run into this?

Hi folks. I'm greener than grass, and I need help. I have never used any art software and I would like to start. I work with vinyl and I always buy someone elses work to create my products. How do I draw and what instrument(s) should I be using?

So, my latest CC Ilustrator version crashed after I accidentally put the Gassian Blur effect up a bit too high on a circular gradient.All the toolbars, control and panels just simply didn't load up with any new document open - or the software would just crash with a generic message upon launch.I've re-installed the program, keeping my settings from before [swatches, jump list etc], but it's not letting me select my saved Workspace, nor allowing me to create/ reset / manage them. All greyed out. And it only comes up with the artboard and elements, none of the system UI, again.... Any ideas on what to do now? 🤔 🤔

Selection tools have been really buggy ever since update. I will click and drag to select an area and in the middle of the drag it will deselect, or at the end of the drag when I let go it will show all the points and then deselect anyway. I will have to drag multiple times over the same area in order for it to finally select that area. It is extremely frustrating, I have never had this issue in the past. Please let me know if there is a fix for this, my husband is having the same issues (he works on PC, I'm on MAC.) I also noticed that when trying to select text areas to move them they will sometimes change my selection tool to the type tool, this is probably an unrelated issue but I would also like it to stay on the selection tool when moving type like it used to in the past.   

I'm having this issue running Illustrator 2024 (because 2025 is still too buggy to run on my Mac) when saving a file to PDF. When I open the PDF in Acrobat, all of the numbers in the font and any spaces show up as a box with an X. The font is the Adobe font, Gotham. It's an Adobe font, activated in the Adobe fonts in Creative Cloud, and it is still having these issues in Adobe products.
