Hi everyone, I'd like to share a script.   Some time ago I wrote a script for bin-packing in Illustrator (posted here on the forum) and recently another user asked me if I could make a version for Indesign, which I have now done and I've published to github (the repo has scripts for both Indesign and Illustrator).   To read more about the scripts, including instructions, you can visit the github repo or to jump right in you can directly download the scripts.   What is bin packing? Bin packing is arranging things so that they fit into "bins". In Illustrator, the bins are artboards, and in Indesign the bins are pages.   This is the sort of thing you can do in Illustrator (packing 35 items into 2 artboards):   And here's an Indesign example, packing 146 items onto 4 pages: (This animation is using the option "Divide Bins at Guides", which keeps the items clear of the guides by a set margin.)   I hope someone will find the scripts useful.     First prototype of Stroker:   Stroker 1   - Download and unzip the file- Open happy_new_year_2022.ai- In the Actions palette: Import stroker_1.aia- Select all objects (all of them are filled and closed paths)- Run the action stroker_1 - Be a bit patient   Has to be improved, of course. Prototype 2 is underway.  

Hi - I try to write a small Adobe Illustrator Javascript that (when called) changes the "weight" of some selected text (eg. Bold to Medium).Precision: Text selection is made with the "Type Tool" (NOT the "Selection Tool").NB. Mac Studio M1 Max, 32 GB RAM, Mac OS Sequoia 15.0.1, Samsung QLED monitor, 1440 x 3440 resolutionNew Document, RGB modeDefault appearance shows just a hint of a stroke as if set to .25 points, much thinner than standard 1 pt. appearance. Canvas preview does not update stroke weight appearance when increased, either in palette or in toolbar. Both system and Illustrator restarted, same behavior.

When i go on Illustrator it comes up with this system compatibility error, it says unsupported video driver. My illustrator is up to date. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I have a MacBook Pro 2020 with the apple Silicon M1, and whenever I render a 3D model it gets stuck at around 75% (looks like it) and just loads for hours and doesn't continue. I let it render for 2 hours and it didn't move one bit. I've never had any problems with rendering like Premiere Pro or other apps. Any way I can fix it? Thanks, Josh

Is anybody else having this issue with Ai 25 crashing often and then having a dialog box saying to restore default settings when you haven't changed any settings at all?? Brand new Mac Book proBTW and everything is updated.. I've since deleted 25 and am back on 24. 

Hello, I am looking to see if anyone can guide me on how to create a basic square cut line around some text in illustrator to create a decal (like you would see on the side of a company vehicle). My text is 3 lines and I just want a rectangle box around it with curved corners that can be cut on my printer. Thank you in advance. 

I am a licensed Adobe user.beta and normal illustrator versions are available on my computer.versions are up to date c.c. I also checked.My problem is this; I want to write on the free han-tag that I downloaded from the internet,and when I click on the mockup option, the program freezes and then closes. Also,while it says "mockup" in YouTube videos, it says mockup (beta) for me.Is there anyone who can help? Thank you.

I am running latest version of Illustrator and frequently uninstalling / installing to swap between English International and English Arabic versions – Mac OS Mojave (10.14.6). Printer requires outlined fonts – when outlining some characters just disappear! This does not do this on all files / text, just some places and varies from file to file. Different characters, different places.Font is Adobe Arabic (through Creative Cloud). I am using the latest version of Suitcase Fusion for font management - plug-ins are up to date. Nothing unusual, hidden characters etc. Has been working well for years! I have tried new document, new text (point type and text box). As soon as I reverse the paragraph direction it disappears when outlining. I have read a couple of other threads but no solution to the problem that works. I would far rather have a solution than a workaround (wouldn't we all!)Any ideas? Leaves me with zero confidence when supplying artwork. Attached image (yes,

I wasn't sure if I missed them saying this or if they just didn't say it at all, but does anyone know when the "Generate Layout" tool they demonstrated at MAX will be available in Beta? It's a tool that allows you to generate other assets based on one you've already created. In the demonstration, they used a flyer for a Circus (imported as a jpg) and dropped it on the canvas. Then they selected both and got the option to "generate layout" which took the look and layout of the flyer and made other assets like tickets and social posts.

I've been seeing multiple responses here regarding how to make Smart Guides to work, nevertheless mine still doesn't work. I tried everyting, smart guides is on, snap to point is on, snap to pixel tried it on and off, in preferences I already verify everything, alingment guides is on, snapping tolerance set to 1 pt.... I don't know what else to do, please I AM DESPERATE TO MAKE THIS WORK IT'S SO BAD WITHOUT IT. Thank you!

Download a texture from Substance 3D Community, and install it from the 3D effect window, applying it restarts Illustrator. Now, every time I even want to open the 3D window, it restarts, and doesn't even give me a chance to delete the texture. I already uninstalled illustrator twice, tried to delete any registry I could find, used the Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool app and the problem continues.Enter the contents of the illustrator folder (mac) and the textures that come by default appear "but not the one I installed" I don't know where the texture was installed... The texture is:Car Iridescent Paint (this in substance 3D community Assets)

I've got a group of paths which make up a logo.  I've got an image I made where this logo is part of the background, but it hangs off the edge of the artboard (only half of it is meant to be visible).  In order for exports to actually be sized to the artboard, and because I couldn't find a way to crop the group of paths to fit the artboard, I've had to add a clipping mask. Is there a way I can use the clipping mask to make the crop "permanent", and actually remove the parts of the paths that are outside the artboard, so that I can just remove the mask from the layers?  Or is there some other method to actually crop this object to the artboard? 

Hi, I have a script which works fine on my device, but not on the device of the person I made the script for, both devices are windows and using the same Illustrator version. The script fails on the file opening section. How do I import .dxf files into AI latest version? I do not see the Import option under File menu.Please help!

I edited a file with the recently v295 version but when I used the Beta version to open it, the edited content is not there. This is the same when I do the reverse, i.e. edit in the v29 version and the Beta version doesn't show the edited content. Furthermore, I tried saving the same file in a different name i.e. with the Beta version in one name and the v29 version in another name but when you use the FIle/Open menu, each of the versions doesn't show the file that was saved. i.e. Beta won't show the v29 file and vice versa. Worse still, the file saved with the v29 version desn't even appear in the folder ... but you can still open it with the FIle/Open within the App. So, where is it??? Weird.

Every single time I open my Libraries pane in Illustrator, I have to close out these two annoying dialogs before I can access my libraries.  Every. Single. Time. I. Open. Illustrator.  I've already unchecked "Show Tool Tips" and "Show Rich Tool Tips" in Settings > General - how do I stop this madness?

I'm trying to use the align tool for text to distribute spacng vertically. When I select the text and go to the align tool window, the option to enter the measurement for distribute spacing is shaded out. As well, the key object doesn't highlight or allow me to highlight. Attempts to solve:Opening and closing Illustrator.Uninstalling and reinstalling.Varying the order in which I highlight the text, open the align window, re-highlighting the text, etc. This is insanely frustrating, and while I've found answers relating to Align Tool not working, including the measurement, none of them address this. The closest thing I found referred to the suggestions I've already tried. Does anyone know what's going on? I was using it perfectlty yesterday with no problem! I closed illustrator and opened it this morning and now this!!

Hopefully someone has had this before, it's only recently started happening to me but doesn't seem to happen in any of my other adobe programs. Sometimes it just completely freezes and I have to force it to close. When reopening it says its managed to recover my documents but they don't reopen, only a blank document labelled "print" opens back up so I keep losing lots of work. One of my colleagues suggested my hard drive is too full but after a huge clearout I thought I was free,  but it's started happening again 

Hi all, We receive designs where certain objects have more than one fill colour. I'm not sure how they happen to become like this, only that every now and then they're there. The top fill is visibile, but masks off the underlying fills. The invislbe (redundant) fills must be some inherent appearance that just stuck around I guess. When importing these Illustrator files into our prepress software PACKZ the objects with multiple fills apparently get converted into multiple overlaying objects . Still no issue: the top object completely covers the objects underneath masking the redundant colour fill, and the design remains visibly correct.But when the printer uses these PACKZ files in his RIP process, the RIP somehow detects the underlying objects and adds them to the colour separation.For example, if you have a rectangle in a blue spot colour on top of a red spot colour, both spot colours appear in the colour separation, instead of just the blue one. So I would like tr

I have the maintain width and height proportions linked, but it never works. The objects keep being disproportionate when resizing them. What's the solution to this?
