Hello, I saw similar posts in the community but was not able to solve the issue even after contacting Adobe support + Brother Support + Apple Support (all of them referred me to each other at the end and no one seems to know the issue). I guess posting here is my last resort before I decide to change this printer. I'm running InDesign 2023 on MacOS 14 Sonoma / Apple M1 machine. I recently purchased a B&W high DPI Brother printer MFCL2710DW. I installed the printer as required using "printers & scanners" and let Apple download the correct driver for the device, which it did. The printer functions well. Brother website and Apple does not offer an alternative driver for this particular machine. While using the printer to print from applications such as Notepad or Drawbot, the prints come out pretty sharp and satisfactory. Hello! I am using a handwritten words that I have photogarpherd, placed then used image trace to vectorize. I have then added a stroke and used the width tool to make them fuller - since I would like to use an image to fill the letters, using clipping mask.  Here is a screen shot of the first letter I have made a little bigger with stroke and width tool.   Now when I make the clipping mask with the image below - the clipping mask ignores the storke.  This is not working the way I hoped -  but not sure if there is an other way to do this, that wonʻt be super time consuming.  1. Maybe use a different tool to uniformally add fullness to the leters (not stroke/and width tool)?2. Or is there a way to combine the stroke with the original path?3. Or maybe a way to ask the climmping mask to not ignore the stroke? I am pretty new to Illustrator - so I am hoping there is an easy fix and whatever I have written above is not total gibberish.&n

I have had this happen to me twice with completely benign words in my prompt. Several months ago, I had the word "lasso" in the prompt and kept getting the message that the prompt violated guidelines. I changed "lasso" to "lariat" and all was good. I'm assuming the middle three letters of "lasso" was the violation. At least, that's the only thing I can think of. HOWEVER, I have no idea what might be in appropriate in "elk antlers with no background". I started with "horns" and changed it to "antlers" thinking there might be some way to construe "horns" as dirty, but there was no change. "Antlers" is just as bad, apparently. I do understand having guidelines, but I think they need to be reviewed and maybe softened a little. Lasso? Really? And I'm a bit floored by the second one. I didn't even say "bull elk"! 🙂

Hi community. I have made a shape, and then use the transform FX to rotate it, but my pattern has overlapping shapes.is this the correct method to make pattern shapes?  

Sometimes when I use image trace for complex images it produces multiple layers of paths, sometimes in which paths in the exact same line are "stacked" on top of each other - in other words the trace process has produced multiple shapes and when you work with the paths (which I need to do to use in a vinyl cutting process) there are doubled lines in different sections. I've tried to explain with the attached photos - the first one shows one layer/path, the next with that one hidden and another highlighted that covers much of the same area. I would like to be able to combine/merge/flatten these paths into one rather than trying to wade through the layers and hand edit them. Is this possible?

Is it possible to create a .AI file that contains hyperlinks (I know how to do that part) that maintain their integrity when placing it as a linked image into another illustrator file? When I create the file with the hyperlinks and export it as a PDF the hyperlinks work but when I then place it as a link into my other Illustrator file - I cant get it to work at that point. I want to make the imaster mage and link one time and have it in many files. Am I missing something or does it just not work?

When processing objects that were retrieved as 'doc.pathItems' I skip the ones that are- hidden- locked- are on a hidden layer- are on a locked layerHowever, the script still tries to process an object that is on a hidden layer, and gives an error when it does a item.selected = true; // inside of pasteSubtractOn()  if (!item.locked && !item.hidden && !item.layer.locked && !item.layer.hidden){ pasteSubtractOn(item); } 

Hi, all; I have been working on a project where I have been asked to have the output file be 100% vector. My usual workflow is to build up my shapes & design in Illustrator, and then use a custom brush in Photoshop to apply my "grain shading" - see below for an example of my previous work, and for the effect I'm trying to replicate.  The most accurate way I've been able to replicate this in Illustrator is to build out my shapes as usual, and use autotrace to create vectorized versions of my "shading", which I then colourize & apply to each shape with clipping masks. This is creating some seriously large files that are also VERY, VERY slow - I can imagine that the thousands and thousands of tiny little shapes that make up the "spray" are the culprit here. Can anyone suggest a more efficient way to accomplish this? 

Even if I have text selected that is a different font. 

I've been dealing with a new bug encountered in Illustrator 29.1 today. This new version has serious limits with importing AI files exported by other applications. If the AI file has no text objects it will open. But if the AI file has any text objects an error box will be displayed saying: Illustrator could partially read this file. We recovered as much of the file as possible, but some content might be missing. Open to view the recovered file.   When the file is opened there is no content, just an empty placement box.   Rebooting, doing disc cleanup, etc made no difference. The problem would still persist. The only solution appears to be installing a previous build of Illustrator and opening the exported AI files there.Update: I tested the problem on my home setup. The problem is present there. The update for Illustrator 29.1 released earlier today (11/20/2024) won't import AI files exported from other applications (such as CorelDRAW for instance). The issue is present in

I rasterized some text and then used image trace/ make and expand to get vectors.  Been doing this for years.   I ungrouped everything and then selected an isolated vector to change stroke and color.  I cannot work with anything individually and it doesn't fill the group properly.  I can select each vector individually but it treats everything like a group no matter what I do.  I've done this literally hundreds of times....  This is only ONE of my issues with 2025.  Back to 24 for me?I just need a reliable vector.  This isn't hard adobe....  come on.

About an hour ago, my Illustrator crashed (which it always does once in a while) along with some files I had been working on, and I wasn't concerned since I typically am always able to open the recovered files upon relaunch. However, the file that had important work in it was saved as a cloud document, and this is my first time using Illustrator cloud documents. When I relaunched the program, I was not able to find that particular recovered file anywhere, and the last version that had been saved to the cloud was from seven days ago, meaning I lost a ton of work I had done since then. I know it's ultimately my fault for not saving properly, but if it was a cloud document I don't understand why it had not been autosaving for that entire time, or why it was not at least saved as a local recovery file??? Is there anything I can do now to recover that data or is it lost forever?

Hi,I've been experiencing lag on my Mac Illustrator since an update a few weeks ago. Oddly enough, even after reinstalling earlier versions of Illustrator, the problem persists. By lag, I mean random but annoying ~1-second freezes of the entire app when moving any object with the Selection Tool. This happens with small and big documents, new and old ones. Every time. I have Macbook Pro 16", 2021M1 Max Silicone, 64 Gb of RAM. As Illustrator is the primary software I use for my livelihood, I cannot begin to express my level of frustration. Dear Adobe, it feels like you've literally broken the tool for me. P.S.: Creative Cloud Cleaner haven't helped as well.

I createad a .pdf file in Illustrator. Originally that is an .ai file with multiple artboards. The pdf was created as Save as, PDF, Range 3 (artboard 3). When I open the saved .pdf in Photoshop, Acrobat Pro or Chrome, indeed I get the correct 1 page as intended. However, if I open this exact same .pdf in Illustrator, now suddenly the original content with all multiple artboards appear. I do not understand how this is possible. I tried to save both [x] Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities on and off, that didn't have any effect on the number of artboards. Can someone explain what's going on? Acrobat's Document Properties clearly shows Number of Pages 1. But still Illustrator opens all the pages (artboards), not just one. When the .pdf is open in Illustrator, I can clearly see it's the same expectedly 1-page file, I have not mistakenly opened a wrong file.

How can I get a feathered circle?

This used to be SO easy. All I want to do is align my stroke to the outside of my text, but Illustrator won't let me. So I go into my Appearance pallet to see what's going on. On my first attempt to align the stroke, I've applied the stroke and fill under the "Type" attribute. As you can see, aligning the stroke is a no go....Since the align stroke is greyed out for "Type," I thought adding the fill and stroke to the "Characters" attribute instead would do the trick. It did not. It's not greyed out, like it was on "Type" but clicking on "Align to Outside" does nothing.Can someone please help me here? I've tried Googling Type vs Characters in the Appearance panel for Illustrator, but since these terms have LONG been associated with OTHER Illustrator pallets, all I get are unrelated results. I've found nothing. So now, after over 10 years of using Illustrator, I no longer know how to do something simple like align strokes to text (or apply gradients to text for that matter). I hope one day Adobe will accomplish to crate a smooth path to open AI files in PSD and edit the layers . Right now it is convoluted, difficult and gives users that know how to deal with PSD files but not AI files a lot of headaches.

Like I said in the title, every single time I click on an object, the app freezes for a second or two and then moves the object to wherever the mouse was. Its rendered the app unusable, every little thing takes me 3x as long to do it because of this. Working on Illustrator 2024 28.0im on Ventura 13.6M1 MaxAnybody got any fixes?

Hello,I have downloaded a vector from the internet and opened it in Illustrator by going to File > Place. I have tried the selection tool and the direct selection tool to highlight the individual picture that I want to use out of the vector, however none of this is working. It just highlights the whole document. I have pressed ungroup, embedded etc and still nothing... I am new to illustrator so perhaps I'm doing something else wrong. I want to be able to copy just the top line of stars and use them only. Does anyone know how I can do this?ps. I am using Illustrator CC 2017.
