Questions

I udpdated to the latest version of Illustrator for 2023 (27.0) and noticed almost immediately that my workspaces were "auto-flipping" to CPU when I work in GPU daily. When I first open the file everything looks good and my scrubby zoom works fine.  After a few minutes, even when I am not touching anything at all, my workspace will 'flicker' or 'blink' (as I've been calling it), and then my scrubby zoom no longer works.  When I nagivate to View to select 'Preview on GPU' the action/option is then completely grayed out after this flicker happens.  I'm forced to close my file and re-open, but the same thing happens after a few moments yet again.  Not being able to use scrubby zoom makes my daily job a literal nightmare. In tandem with the Illustrator update, I updated graphics drivers and have rebooted my computer twice since all updates.  I ended up reverting to the previous AI version, which isn't the worst thing ever because I get the Rings of Power

Just for practice I wrote a basic script that would loop through all document.pageItems then replace it's appearance with a stroke while attempting to draw each of it's pathPoint anchors/handles manually. I'm getting unexpected results, though. On a simple shape, there are no problems. Left is the script result, right is the actual path: Looks great. But once I try a more complex file like a character, I get strange results: The left script results produces a bundled group of anchors where there should be none (between the pencil and the clipboard, beneath the left eye). It looks as though it stops executing at this point, because it doesn't continue to the leaf, shadow, eyes, mouth, etc. When I comment out the section that draws handles, all is fine, it strips the appearance just as expected: Can I get some help here? When I double click in Adobe Illustrator it doesn't work on my desktop computer but it does work on my laptop.  Does anyone know why this would be?

example; I want to select five hundred square objects and put the letter "A" into each of them in a single operation. Is there a short way to do this?

HelloMy teacher gave me a task to create an interactive fill-out form using Adobe Products. I am not familiar with this and have no idea if he is just testing my knowledge, or if this is really possible. Here is the task he gave me:Design the form in Illustrator or InDesign and export it only in PDF (this I understand). What I don't understand is how to make it interactive:The form needs to have squares with questions (Who is your favorite writer, What is your favorite band, etc).Once the user clicks on those squares with questions the question disappears, and they can type their answer instead in that same square.Everything in the document needs to fit a specific color palette. Thanks for the help in advance!

One thing that recently changed in Illustrator is the scaling box (free transform). I used to use it all the time. If I wanted to size a path, I would select something with the white arrow and then hit "e" and scale it along a guide until it connects (in a nutshell). Nowadays, when I want to scale something, I get a bounding box that is far bigger than the object selected and so I can now not scale alongside something anymore. Not sure if I'm explaining this correctly. Anyone know how to constrain the bounding box to the size of the actual object and get rid of all that stupid padding? - or actually - it looks like it happens mostly on small objects, but still... they're not THAT small. Can anyone help? Seen below, the larger one is what I want - where it always adds tool to the direct edge, with no padding. Help? Thanks!Ben

I have a bunch of text and strokes I have expanded to form shape objects. They sit on a large rectangle. I'm using the shape builder tool to subtract the text and lines from the large rectangle. It takes gradually longer as I'm subtracting the shapes one by one, and illustrator eventually crashes. It's using only 1GB memory and 10% CPU (and no GPU). Why is this happening? Can anyone think of a workaround?

I can't find Save for Web or anything like it. An interface where I can scale the image I am exporting, select quality, format, antialiasing options, crop to artwork or artboard, and preview what I am doing. Super useful feature, and it appears to be gone.   Ooops. First thing in the mornig. I was in InDesign.   If a moderator can delete this post so I don’t look like such an idiot I would be grateful.

I want to understand how to reproduce this gradient exactly. I tried to use a freeform gradient (see the second picture Asset 1@2x.jpg), but it did not achieve the dark yellow shade on the edges and the sharp angle on the right. What other options are there?

Hi everyone, I am trying to replicate the attached image which is a serried of 20 oval shaped dotted lines that follow and abstract spiral wave to replicate how hair would look curling around a curling wand. The spacing between each width varies as it turns at the front face from 4cm at the bottom, 5.5cm in the middle and 5cm at the top swirl. can anyone guide me on how I can exactly replicate this image?    Many thanks 

After the recent update I started working on this old project, When i am resizing the text till a certain point size say 1000pt, it resizes normal like point type text does, after a point the text size stays the same and goes to the left edge like it would in area type, and when i leave the mouse it goes back to how it was before

The basic idea that I want to try is this:Given a series of elements, I want to create a vertically striped mask that will cover all of the elements with some overlap on either side.Each of the vertical stripes will be placed "C" pixels apart from each other horizontally  where C=number of images. The vertical stripes will cover all of the images.How I do it now, is I create a compound path of vertical 1px wide stripes separated by "C" pixels for the entire width (plus 2xC  for overlap). I then place a copy of the compound path aligned with the first image (offset horizontally by "-C" pixels) and select both the compound path and the layer to create a clipping mask.I repeat this for each shape, but offset the compound path by 1 px horizontally each times (for a total of "C" clipping masks. I have tried to duplicate this in the code below but I'm not that great at JS so I used the Jquery library (which I am also not that great at). I fgure there are easier ways to accompl

Hello, I have saved a CMYK JPG image to TIF in photoshop then imported to a document in illustrator.  After finishing the artwork layout and exporting as a print PDF the image looks slightly duller. On the attached file the original JPG is on the left hand side and print PDF (image converted to TIF) on the right. I have tried different conversions and destinations on the Illustrator export but nothing seems to match the brightness of the original JPG.  Can anyone advise? Thank you in advance! 

<omitted statement expressing how deeply disappointed I am in Adobe Illustrator now, an application I've been using since 1990> When working on files with dieline layers, we sometimes turn off portions of those layers that include unnecessary information. Lately, I've discovered that if I decide to hide an object on a layer to perform a change, and then show that object again, all the sublayers that were previously turned off are spontaneously revealed again.  

Hi , my new AI 2024 is missing these features in the character box,  see attached for what is missing. How do  I make these reappear in the box? The image is from my 2023 version that has them.

I want to create a company wide email signature that I would be able to autofill, then export with a data set.  Each one would be exported as an unque document. Would someone be able to link me to a tutorial or let me know how to do this? 

in my AI when i used to try to highlight a layer that was locked a little keypad icon would appear to show the layer is locked and u could click on it to unlock the layer of choice, but the new 2024 version doesnt have this happening is there a way i can reactive this feature?

Hi I have an object whose shadow strays outside the artboard, but I'm interested in exporting to jpg only what is inside the artboard. As it is, I have to manually crop the exported jpg using paint shop. I tried drawing a slice, but I don't see a way of just exporting the slice. sorry for the newbie question. thanks in advance.

Im having issue for a while when i try to select a color stop in a gradient and trying to get the popup to show for changing a color. I work with a tablet and i guess due to the very small movement when performing a double click. Lots of times the color stop moves when i try to do a selection on the color stop.I tried ny possible shortcut, perhaps one would prevent this behavior. Does any one know a trick. perhaps change double click settings in Wacom setting i guess Even when using a really large panel. There seems to be very very minimal movement as i perform a double click. Because when i check if the gradient is still the same using Select > Same Fill Color. The object on the left is the only on select, even when it was duplicated from the right rechtangle. 

I'm not even sure of the correct terminology here so I haven't been having much luck searching google or the forums. This is what I'm after:I have a list of color names and their accompanying cmyk values on my computerI want to create a swatch library that I can open in Illustrator and that will display the color name when I hover over each swatchI want to do this without entering individually each name and value inside Illustrator I have a list with entries that look like this:Corinthian Pink0, 35, 15, 0 Is there some tool that can convert such a list (or let me quickly copy and paste)?
