Question

Are Structure Panel and Tags Panel in Indesign in anyway related to PDF Export

Hi

I am new to Indesign and i need to apply proper mapping of styles to PDF tags.

Is the Window -> Styles -> Paragraph Styles the only place to do it. 'Export tagging' tab in the Edit Paragraph styles window only provides Tags like H1 to H6, P, Artifact and Automatic.

I also see that there is a Tags Panel in Indesign at Window -> Utilities -> Tags. Is this in any way related to PDF Tags? Also there is a Structure pane at View -> Structure -> Show Structure. Is this in any way related to PDF export? Please let me know.

Sure! You are spot on in your assumption that the Paragraph Styles panel is the key method of mapping to the appropriate tags in the exported PDF file. You can completely ignore the Tags panel and Structure pane in Adobe InDesign. To be fair, this was the method we used about 10 years ago before InDesign CS 5.5 added PDF accessibility features that were more robust. My recommendation is to totally ignore that panel unless your trying to import/export XML data in and out of InDesign.
