Cannot Edit Tables?

Hello! I thought it would easier to start using tables in InDesign to do things like calendars, but now I can't edit them. I go to the table menu and none of the options are available. The table itself is selected, but it won't let me edit it. All I wanted to do was change the thickness of the stroke. Help!

I figured it out on my own, thank you! I thought it was like Illustrator where selection tool would allow you to select what you click on...

For the benefit of anyone reading this post at a later date… The screen shot from the OP clearly shows the Selection tool selected and the text frame active in the document. To edit a table, you MUST use the Type tool, not the selection tool. Once you have the Type tool selected, you can select the table, rows, columns, and edit the text within each cell.

True.

Additionally:

If you happen to have a table with graphic cells you could select a graphic cell's container frame and hit the esc-key. That would select the graphic cell. Now you could use the menu commands for selecting the whole table, a row or a column.

I can edit the text in the table, but I can't insert new rows, select table options etc.  Why?

The text frame containing the table is selected. You have NOT selected the table itself.
