Clarity of writing in a placed image

I have an image file showing a timeline with writing which is very clear and very readable

When I try to place it into my InDesign file it is suddenly very blurry with illegible writing

It doesn't seem to be a size/scale issue.  Also I have tried multiple file types

I feel like there is something basic I am overlooking

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much

If you place it into InDesign it is best to save it as PDF/X-4 or as AI file. Let text be alive, vectors should remain vectors. For this kind of graphics avoid any raster file like PNG, JPG, TIFF or PSD.
How it is represented depends on the display settings.

Thank you very much.  I will bear that in mind, and next image follow your advice saving it in PDF/X-4 or AI.

With this one I cheated a bit and composed the original in "Flowdia" so was limited in file choices.   I will do some sessions on Illustrator though to get better at it. Thank you
