Copying and Pasting from one file into another. Fonts are in the 1st but show up as missing in new

Hello,

Using CC2017 on High Sierra.  When I do a select all contents from one file and copy into a new document the font (Georgia) shows up as missing (although it's fine in the first document).  If I do the "find font" and replace it then it's fine except my round bullets show as a missing font still (even though they show up fine in the first document.) Any suggestions/thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Is this a file that you created yourself using fonts that are open on your computer? If you received this as a collected file from another source then what Barb is saying is true. The first file reads the font through the Document Fonts folder which is part of the collect. Any other file would not make the connection to the Document Fonts folder. It is always the best idea to have all fonts that you are using open on the computer itself rather than through the folder that comes with the collect. You might want to look into a font utility such as Suitcase or Linotype FontExplorer Pro for managing your fons. Using a font utility allows you to have fonts that are in a document automatically open as well as keeping permanantly open fonts that you use all the time. You can also set up sets of fonts that are specific to particular clients that can be open all at once when needed.

Hi KHCap: When a file is packaged to give to someone else, InDesign will make a Document Fonts folder with the fonts needed to open that file. In that scenario, the fonts would only be available to that one file. Could that be what is going on here?

And speaking of folders, Macs have multiple fonts that store fonts. When a font isn't showing up in InDesign, you can copy it to the InDesign fonts folder (see path below), which usually takes care of the issue... for InDesign.
