DataMerge page disposition

Hello, I am facing a really odd problem with DataMerge.

I have a master page with facing pages and a document template for data merge with one page that has a placeholder for one image. My CSV file contain a list of images. When I run the the datamerge all the new pages are created as right pages and the left pages are missing.

If I create an alternative layout, all the pages on BOTH layouts are reflooded and I finally have (as I want) right and left facing pages.

Can you explain me this mistery?

You'll be pleased to know that I can replicate the behaviour that is appearing in your post.

Looks like a bug to me. I can also get facing pages back if I highlight all pages in the pages panel, and then toggle "allow selected spreads to shuffle" on and off. I can't see that anyone else has filed a bug report at indesign.uservoice.com but I'd suggest doing this would be the first step to resolving the issue.

It's hard for me to picture in my mind's eye what is happening. Are you able to provide some screenshots of the steps of your procedure? It may assist us in diagnosing the issue.

If the answer wasn't in my post, perhaps it might be on my blog at colecandoo!

Dear Colin, thank you for asking!

This is my file before DataMerge:

This is how it looks like after DataMerge, note that the pages of the spread are not facing!

Here is what happens if I ask for an alternative layout and keep all the offered setup: both layouts now have facig pages:

This is exactely what I want, but I would like to know if there is another way for fixing the skipped facing pages in the layout!
