Indesign doesn't mark 'single letter' PDF comments in the last words of the lines

Indesign 17.2.1 x64, Win 10
Indesign doesn't mark 'single letter Replace' PDF comments in the last words in the line.

If there is 'Replace single letter' in the previous words, it works fine, if there is Replace whole last word or even hypenated word, it works fine.

Just a note on PDF/X and PDF Comments:

If you do PDF Comments in Acrobat Pro, the PDF/X standard will be violated.

The saved PDF with the annotations ( technical term for comments used in Acrobat Pro when doing a preflight ) is not a PDF/X anymore.

So there is no real point to export to PDF/X and doing the annotations in that kind of file.

"Still, I cannot tell what went wrong when you commented on Untitled-1.pdf"

After a new test this is still true.

Did some of my own comments in my exported PDF/X-3 pdf in Acrobat Pro.

Saved the commented PDF to a new name. Imported the commented PDF to your InDesign document's PDF Comments panel. No comments are missing. Even when I did only one comment in the last word of a line.

Hi solar21,

thank you for your files.

Something is odd here.

What I tested:

[1] Removed all comments from your InDesign document. Saved it to a new name.

[2] Exported it to PDF/X-3, PDF/X-4 and PDF/X-1a with bleed and crop marks.

[3.1] Opened the exported PDFs in Acrobat Pro.

Imported the comments from your Untitled-2 no PDFX.pdf and saved the PDFs to a new name.

Imported the PDFs to the PDF Comments panel in InDesign.

Result: All of the PDF comments were imported to the InDesign PDF Comments panel.

[3.2] Opened the exported PDFs in Acrobat Pro.

Imported the comments from your Untitled-1.pdf and saved the PDFs to a new name.

Imported the PDFs to the PDF Comments panel in InDesign.

Result: Some of the PDF comments are missing in the PDF Comments panel.

Still, I cannot tell what went wrong when you commented on Untitled-1.pdf

"Still, I cannot tell what went wrong when you commented on Untitled-1.pdf"

This problem is not only on this Untitled-1.pdf. First post example is made from completely different indesign document. And i made another test and it's still the same - Untitled-2 is without PDFX and all comments work. Untitled-3 is with PDFX (i made exactly the same coments in the same way on the pdf) and two comments are missing (to be exact - comment are present in PDF Comments List, but they are not marked in the text).

So in my case PDFX somehow damages PDF Comments. I already changed this to None in the preset - it was only for pdf "first check".

Hi solar21,

could you share a sample InDesign document and its commented PDF?

Tried to reproduce the error and couldn't with my German InDesign 17.2.1.105 on Windows 10.

What was the PDF Export preset? What is the version of Acrobat you are using for commenting?

Thanks,

OK, i made a quick test. It's Untitled-1.indd and Untitled-1.pdf. And it works wrong.

Newest Acrobat Pro DC, Export preset is custom, Compression Medium JPG, No Color Conversion but with PDF/X-3:2002 Standard. And this could be possibly the cause of the error.

I made a second Untitled-2 no PDFX.pdf with Standard None and it looks fine.
