Hey, I have a problem I have difficulties solving on my own.I prepare file in Indesign, keeping everything in sRGB IEC6...1. Export PNG files with transparent backgrounds from Procreate2. Place them in InDesign (linking)3. Indesign is set up for sRGB IEC6...4 Then I Export to pdf using sRGB IEC... as an ouput (embeding profile)I wanted to try using Adobe 5 format compatibility, to avoid downsides of Adobe 4- lines and dividing pictures to triangles, as I observed at least one printing result where printer lost parts of the images. For most of them, these lines resulting from flattening are only visible on screens (something I still would like to avoid if possible). Also, clickable table of contents would be great. So I exported PDF file with Adobe 5 compatibility and received such result on two different printers. What can I do to avoid lines, fractals, and have clicable ToC and not end up with black PNG backgrounds?Have I done anything wrong? All help appreciated!
Since my InDesign updated this morning (can't say for definite that this is connected, but hadn't noticed it before) my contextual taskbar is now 'stuck' onto the right-hand sidebar. It's not as though it's pinned, as such, as it will move up and down, but is locked into it's horizontal position. Clicking 'unpin' does nothing; if I hide it and then open again it reappears in the same position, in the same state. Any ideas on how to solve this ?
Hi all,Not an expert user here, but I'm usually able to solve my own problems. This one has me stumped. I am designing a children's book interior that uses Ten Oldstyle 11 pt as the main font. Occasionally, however, I want to indicate that words are text messages so I'm using American Typewriter 10 pt for that. The result is that I have some paragraphs that use both fonts. Obviously, this is throwing off the leading, which then makes it so that the bottom margin of the page is different from the rest of the pages. Is there a quick fix for this? I've tried adjusting all sorts of things in the paragraph style and the character style, but I haven't gotten any good results. See screenshot. Thanks, Suki
Hello there, I am trying to change [Black] in my document to a new swatch I created and normally, I'd go to Edit > Find/Change and do my thing. But this time, when I am searching for [Black] in my document, so I can change it, the dialogue box is finding pretty much every colour BUT the black in my document. Using the screen shot, you can see that what it found isn't [Black] but a completly different swatch in the document. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!
Hi There's this script from Peter Kahrel, that swaps comma and period for number notation.However, I'd like a version where I can only target numbers inside a cell/table. //DESCRIPTION: Exchange commas and periods in numbers // Peter Kahrel (function () { function findItems () { if (!app.selection.length) { return app.activeDocument.findGrep(); } if (app.selection[0] instanceof TextFrame) { return app.selection[0].parentStory.findGrep(); } try { return app.selection[0].findGrep(); } catch (_) { } exit(); } app.findGrepPreferences = app.changeGrepPreferences = null; app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = "\\d+[,.\\d]+\\d+"; var found = findItems(); var temp; for (var i = found.length-1; i >= 0; i--) { temp = found[i].contents.replace (/,/g, '#'); temp = temp.replace (/\./g, ','); found[i].contents = temp.replace (/#/g, '.') } }());
Hello. Is there a way to create a style or a grep that will automatically convert text to a percentage format? So for example if I type "25.5" into a text box, it automatically adds a "%" at the end to make it "25.5%"? Similar to how it works in cell formatting in Excel? I have a file that includes a lot of numbers that need to be typed in so not having to type the % character or paste it in every time would save me some time. Thank you.
Hello Adobe world,I am hoping that you guys can help me out. I am working in an Indesign file, we have some pricing tables for a client that they update the excel pricing sheet, and then we are setting up their sales sheets that get professionally printed with the linked data from excel. One of the tabs (possible more, but my brain is dead from trying to figure this out) when I go to import the range of data A1:F10, it keeps importing that data, and then there was 4 additional columns of blank cells. It is like Indesign is importing A1:J10, but that is not what I am asking to import from that particular worksheet. What I have tried so far:I have completely copied and pasted the content into a newly created tab in excel, along with stripped all formatting for new worksheet, i have also deleted the extra columns in excel just incase any hidden characters where in a random cell. I have also tried to import using other table styles we have setup, and tried to import using no table style. I
I have a document with lots of interactive form fields to translate and I'm trying to figure out a way to extract all the text field names at once. Does anyone know a script to achieve this? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I currently have an indesign file that is about 12MB. It has a lot of PDF's in the document that I created from a CAD software. Each PDF is from 200KB to 2MB. When I export the InDesign file to PDF, the pdf is about 14 MB and can't be easily emailed that way. We want to be able to email the file so it needs to be under 5 preferably. If I compress the pdf, the drawings that were placed in the document get really grainy and don't look sharp. I'm sure other people have made larger documents with high quality pictures and can get the file side that is easy to work with. Is there a way to get the final PDF down to a more reasonable size without losing quality. Is there something I should do with the smaller pdf's that I place inside the document? Thanks,Sara
Hello! I'm working on a catalog-style project and have run into a dilemma. It is a large printed brochure that will have 50+ pages using a different parent for left and right pages. Over time, we will need to add pages, but they will be placed in between existing pages as the content is ordered in a specific way—so, pages that were on the left may end up on the right and we'll need to change the parent so the document reads correctly. The left and right parent pages contain the same image frame but in a different position so the bleed doesn't show in the facing pages. I add an image by dragging it into the frame. However, if I add a page and need to change another page's parent from right to left, this adds a new image frame from the new parent instead of just moving the position of the existing one. This creates a problem as the image bleed appears on the right page. I know I can just manually move the images, but am looking to automate this somehow to save time as the document gr
I have been reading comments with the same topic but I cannot find the solution to my problem. WHenever I update the TOC, it only shows the header. I double checked the styles already, I saved the idml and opened that, I tested with a new para style to try-still not working. Is there any way someone can check this for me? Thank you so much!

When I publish my document, some of the colors in the photos change. Although the photos are png or jpg, the color is RGB, what is the reason for this?
I make a change to the photo in PS then go back to the selected photo in InDesign. InDesign immediately crashes and shuts down. I figured out that if I deselect the photo I want to adjust in PS then ID does not crash. I have InDesign 20.1 and PS 26.4.1. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a fix or a better workaround? Thank you
I have a very repetitive task of replacing the images inside existing image boxes with images that I don't have on my computer, but that I right-click > copy image from my web browser. Is there a way to directly replace the image with the contents of my clipboard? Currently I have to just paste the clipboard onto the page, creating a new image box that I then have to move/resize to fit on top of the old one, and then deleting the old one, which is quite inneficient.Thank you!
I turned on dynamic spelling to see potential mistakes in the text, but it is asking me to change all first letters of words to uppercase, even when they are not at the beginning of a sentence. This has been really annoying because there is so much underlined text that I can't really pay attention to the red ones, which are actually potential grammar mistakes. Has anyone else experienced this problem and knows how to fix it?The graph style is set to my language. Only that came to my mind is that InDesign thinks it's all names because it has bad vocabulary in my language, so it asks me to change the first letter to uppercase so the word makes sense to the system. But that would be so stupid, why wouldn’t it underline those words in red instead?
When defining a character/paragraph style, for instance, for captions, where only the initial word is to be set in italics or bold and the rest set regular, how's this done? E.g.: "Above: Schematic for Bronson House, Altadena, California, 1947". Thank you.
My master page contains a text box, which is supposed to be editable. However, when I create page based on that master, inDesign does not allow me to edit content of that box. If one of you can show me how to do this, I would be grateful.

Hope someone else benefits from this. It adjusts every number that matches a particular character style.Useful when static references are used and client adds a new one in!If anyone wants to improve it by, say, specifying at which number the adding begins, that's great.Successfully used on one document so far. -- Renumber (+1) based on char style - findChange a story at a time -- Built with ChatGPT 5 March 2025 tell application "Adobe InDesign 2025" -- Clear previous find preferences set find grep preferences to nothing -- Set GREP find preferences set properties of find grep preferences to {applied character style:"_LOCAL-ITALIC REF# CAPTURED", find what:"\\d+"} -- Get all stories in the active document tell active document set allStories to stories -- Process each story separately repeat with s in allStories set foundItems to find grep of s -- Process numbers in reverse order to prevent indexing issues repeat with i from (count of foundItems) to 1 by -1 set t to item i of
Hi,I have a 300 page doc with hundreds of pictures. When I try exporting to PDF, i encounter 2 issues:1. "This doc contains links to files that are not accessible" error message. However, i relinked all images. Images in orange means it's good to go yes ? 2. "Failed to Export the PDF file.Possible cause of failure is present on spread with page number "22". Usually, when replacing the images by drag and dropping images from files to indd, it works and the next spread with error is a higher page number (eg.: next error is on page 23). Sometimes, it's a lower number (like 4). Wondering if anyone can help me with this... THanks

Greetings! I teach InDesign in a public high school. I am creating a collaborative assignment where one student creates a page in InDesign, their partner edits text in InCopy, and then the text is placed on the InDesign page. We have no shared server due to security and privacy issues, so the file portability will be via Google Drive or emailing as an attachment. Here's my InCopy/InDesign question: Is there a way to make the Paragraph Styles created in InCopy work properly in InDesign? When the formatted InCopy text is placed the styles created in InCopy show up in the InDesign Paragraph Styles panel, but when clicked they do not change the text.Thanx,Jay
