Questions

I cant find much about InDesign 20.0 supporting <figure> and <figcaption>. Is it possible to export images and captions with <figure> and <figcaption> when exporting as PDF? Or is that an EPUB-only feature?

I am searching for an opportunity to change the background color of a textfield automatically in a document with data merge. Is there a possibility to define it in the Excel file or can I work with object format. What can I do to get a good solution? Many thanks 😉

I am trying to set up a book layout in InDesign (2025) with the following requirements:Document Setup:Facing Pages enabled.Left pages are for flowing text, using a Primary Text Frame.Right pages are for static images, with no text frames or threading.Expected Behavior:When I place text on the first left-side page, it should overflow into new left-side pages automatically.InDesign should create additional left-side pages and thread the text into their Primary Text Frames without any manual intervention.Current Problem:I have set up the text frame on the left Parent Page as a Primary Text Frame.Smart Text Reflow is enabled with the following settings:Limit to Primary Text Frames checked.Add Pages set to "At End of Story."Despite this setup, when I place text, it overflows into a red + sign and does not automatically create or flow into new left-side pages.To thread text into subsequent left-side pages, I must manually click the out port of each text frame and connect it to the next page,

Good morning,I am working on a 11x17 brochure which will be folded to appear as 4 pages.  Naturally, I would also like to have the PDF so it "prints" into 4 separate pages.  However, I just cannot seem to figure out how to accomplish this.  I am using InDesign CS5 and my pages are sized to 11x17 in my document.It seems this should be fairly straight forward to do.  If anyone can please explain what I am missing, I would really appreciate it.  At this point I am starting to conclude what I want is not possible to do without re-laying it out in a document with 8.5x11 pages.  Please tell me I am wrong! Hi, I have Adobe Indesign 2023 . Recently, when I open any document and I face 2-4 seceond pause running. I copy some text from different software to paste into my Indesign document and again I can not click for 3-4 second then this makes me so slow in process. Why I face this issue with new Adobe Indesign?Please help me. Before that was very fast and smooth working in Indesign.Regards,

Hello!I'm new here, so please go easy on me. I'm sure there's an easy solution to my problem, but I've tried everything I can think of, and I've looked everywhere for an answer. InDesign 20.0 Problem:When running a Data Merge, the Stroke Weight of my rectangles seems to be included in the rectangle's dimensions, and the edges of the rectangles won't align perfectly with each other. I've disabled the "Dimensions Include Stroke Weight" option and my "Align Stroke" option is set to center, although it acts the same regardless of which option is selected. This is the rectangle in question   This is how the Data Merge turns out  And here's a close-up of my problem   Any ideas?

I purchased the perpetual product of InDesign a number of years ago. I'm a freelance editor. For one project, the documents were on the client's server, and I signed in from home to do the editing. When the project was complete, I discovered that somehow the client had changed my password to theirs, and I can no longer access my own legal copy of InDesign. Since then I have rented InDesign when I needed it for other projects, but it really bothers me to have the program on my computer and be unable to use it. I tried going to my account on the Adobe website to update my InDesign, but when I typed in the serial number I got the message "This serial number is already in use." How do I reclaim my legally purchased product?

I have a template with multiple placeholder images, the images are in a folder next to the .indd document. Everytime i need to create a document using that template, i make a copy of both the placeholder images' folder and the .indd file to a new folder. And replace the placeholder images with final images to export.But by default, InDesign will refer to the Absolute Path of the images instead of the Relative Path. My current solution is changing the name of the original folder to something else everytime i make a copy, but it would be faster if i could just make InDesign prioritise the Relative Path by default! Is there any way to achieve this?

Hallo 🙂 Ich habe eben in einem Dokument gearbeitet, als ich zum einen festgestellt habe, dass ich keinen Text mehr markieren kann und wenn ich Textrahmen vergrößern oder verkleinern will verzieht sich alles. Der Text wurde nicht in Pfade umgewandelt.Außerdem fehlt im Seitenbedienfeld das Symbol für "neue Seite einfügen", dort wird nur das Symbol für einen neuen Musterdruckbogen angezeigt.Das Problem besteht scheinbar in allen Dokumenten, also habe ich wohl versehentlich irgendwas umgestellt, ich verstehe nur nicht was es sein könnte und wie ich es zurück ändern kann. Ich habe zwischenzeitlich die Voreinstellungen zurück gesetzt und das letzte Update installiert, aber leider hat das auch nichts geholfen. Vielen Dank schon mal 🙂

Hi. I encounter some issues with text wrap in indesign.basically the contour options are disable and I cannot wrap the text around my image.The ignore text wrap is disable also so I cannot understand what I should to to fix my problem. Any ideas??? 

If i have the above page and a textframe in the center what is the javascript code to align / fit the textframe to the page margins ?

My boss sent me an Indesign file and when I go to open it it says that it needs to be converted from an indd file to an IDML file. When I click convert, it isn't able to do it. Why can't I just open the INDD file on my computer?

Hi,When I output a QR-Code (Business-Card) in InDesign, users scanning the Code get a weird combination of characters instead of an «é». It looks like an ascii-issue or similar. How can I fix it ?Cheers🙂G

Hello, After parsing/extracting info from the received indd/idml input we want to build an HTML or convert it into a different format like JSON. Without having InDesign installed, are there any APIs or SDKs by Adobe that allows extracting/parsing detailed info from indd/idmls? Or, are there any Adobe suggested open-source libraries, to accomplish the same? Looking forward to your response Thanks!

Hi, I'm working on another persons file, my problem is, their anchored object and the text next to it are centred in the row of a table, but mine isn't, how can I fix that? Pictures attached.

Just the script to make the image fit to type area or column isn't available either?

Hi everyone.I have imported a few .PSD images to make my work manuals, but they all show this small little line on there the most outer bounding box is. How i i remove/hide this? Because for me it is really disctracting and it gives me a hard time having a complete view of the page.The stroke is already set to 0, and the color is transparent, so it is not a stroke problem.  Apologies for the red color, but i dont know how HQ feels about me putting the brand new manuals on the internet. Thanks already! -Nick

Hi, i’m looking for a way to automate the placement of picto’s and object that are used often in a book.The picto's/objects are indicated in the manuscript as keywords and should be replaced by the correct picto/object as an anchored object. We dont want to place those items using external links.The idea is that we put all the different picto’s/objects that are in a book on a certain masterpage or layer and label them.Would it be possible to create a script that replaces the keywords with the object with the correct label?Now we do a find&change for each picto/object that is in the book.I attached a PDF to illustrate what i mean. This is the second time this has happended in a month now. I've been working on a large annual report, saved continuoulsy throughout the day, come in the next day and the everything that I have done is gone, the document will show maybe just 2 pages that were saved earlier in the day prior and the rest all blank - all work gone 😞What is going on? I dont want to recreate this from scratch again - and its just the same document in the recent files with the 2 pages. Please dont assume I just didnt save it -  I did, all throughout the day.

i was hoping somine could help me. I have done an Indesign document for a presentaion. On the screen it looks fine, the pdf looks fine, but when it prints it puts dark boxes around random items and also missies off some items. I'm making a paragraph style for headings in a document, and I'm trying to find a way to make the paragraph shading behind the header skewed/non-rectangular. Like a parallelogram, where the top and bottom are parallel to the text but the left and right sides are tilted in one direction. Is there any way to do that?

Hi, Last week, when I opened Indesign there were several videos tutos types in the home of Indesign, at opening.But now, when I open Indesign, there are just my last documents created. I've seen the learn part on Adobe (https://www.adobe.com/fr/learn/indesign?skillLevel=beginner&learnIn=1) but there are not the same videos as those that were displayed on the home of the softwareWhere can I find again those tutos please ? Thank you for helping

While exporting the book catalog I prepared with Indesign as PDF, the message “You cannot reverse this change with the Edit > Undo command. Do you still want to continue?” A warning appears: I have to confirm this annoying warning with ENTER or cancel it with ESCAPE at least a hundred times during every export process, otherwise the PDF will not be created. Moreover, whether I cancel or confirm, there is no problem with the resulting PDF. However, this frustrating process, which must be performed manually, requires a lot of time. I can't understand why there is no "Accept All" or "Reject All" option for this warning. Does anyone know what causes it or the solution?
