Questions

I can't press save in Indesign, the gray bar that can't be pressed and some other commands can't be used. But what really disappoints me is that I've been working for 2 hours of recording. Normally I set it to save automatically, but this time the program didn't save and I still can't save to close the program. I have to force close the program and when I open the file, I find that I have to work again. What? I didn't pay for the license to encounter something like this.in v 20.0   <Title renamed by MOD>

Hi, I am new to InDesign and EPUB creation so go easy on me for my lack of foundational knowledge.  When I export my ebook to EPUB format, I am losing spaces between some words (but not all). For example, "fill it with" comes out as "fillitwith". I am using InDesign version 16.1.0.20 on a Mac. My font is Courier New. I checked the hidden characters and my spaces are shown there, but not in the EPUB conversion. Is my problem with my font selection?  I tried changing my paragraph and character styles. I tried changing the font to something else that worked - but I would really prefer to keep my existing font.  Thanks!

hi all - InDesign export to EPUB3 (Fixed-layout)on export - 'Cover' > 'Choose image'all works as expected on iBooks / Calibre / Kindle Previewer but on Adobe Digital Editions the cover shown in 'Library' is a section of the first '.xhtml' file in the book's reading sequence. How can I get the cover image showing correctly on ADE?I can get it to work by following - on export - 'Cover' - 'Rasterize first page', but only want the covers to show in 'Library' view!any help would be appreciated - thanks

My colleague  saves all his image files as psds or re-saves jpgs as psds for a magazine he designs in inDesign. Surely when inDesign exports to PDF, it compresses them to jpgs anyway? He said they print better if they're psds, any truth in that? It's taking up so much memory and an unnecessary task in my opnion - any truth in his theory?   <Title renamed by MOD>

Hi there, I bought the Windows Surface 11 Pro as I used the 9, before. Now I want to use InDesign and Illustrator on it, but there is no Desktop Version visible in the CC. Are there any plans that those two apps will work on the Surface 11? Or do I have to change my hardware... again?Thanks for help and information

Hello,   I am importing a Word document (cmnd+D) into a text element.This is (a part of) the Word-document: (look at the komma) The komma is on the normal place, after the word. But when I import this in Indesign, it looks like this: Indesign moves all punctuation marks!!! Then what happens when I want to select them or delete them, I can not even select them, look:  I am sick and tired of this random sh!t happening, it costs me a lot of time every time. Working with a large book ms in Word, something I've done many times, but this time I have encountered something I don't recall seeing/dealing with before.   I am working through import iterations and mapping the Word styles to newly defined ID styles. Everything is fine except that ID is retaining local formatting on each of these styles. Every BODY paragraph, for example, is retaining things like the original font and size as well as trivial settigns like hyphenation. Every character style is properly defined and applied, but the text retains the formatting of the original as a spot override.   Is there a way to force a style redefinition to clear local spot formatting, both paragraph and character? It appears to affect nearly all the paragraphs of the book, and I'm not sure I've ever seen this before. I really can't Clear Overrides on every single one...   —

Hello InDesign-ers!Its a long shot, but checking to see if someone can maybe help. We have somewhat of an old jsx script for InDesign someone found awhile back (2016) called ExportStoriesToRTF.jsx. Works on the Macs, but in Windows its been hit or miss. We can't for the life of us figure out why it works on some workstations and not others. And all versions of ID are the same. Settings too. Not sure if we actually need Java installed, but version of Java is the same as well. We get a crazy pop when we execute the script from the Scripts panel which I've attached. Anyone ever use this script? Any experience you can share? 

Hello! Does anyone know about an Indesign feature which helps simulate recycled paper ? I would like to do that in order to adapt my document colors to recycled paper before printing. Thank you!  

replaced 1 of 2 old monitors on a desktop machine (i7, GF1060, win11), with a 4k Dell U3223.  drivers were installed, color profile seems good. All ID files look low quality on the new monitor. If I drag them to the old monitor, they look great. If I copy the text from the file, and paste it into a Word document, it looks great. Found the setting for ID that shows only medium quality, changed it to high, but it made no change. tried changing resolutions from 4k to 2k, FHD etc. Also tried different scaling levels (150%, 125, 100) in windows, but nothing helped.   Mentioning again, everything looked great on the replaced monitor, and still looks great on the remaining older monitor,  and everything looks great on the new monitor outside of ID.      <Title renamed by MOD>

Hey Guys, I have a problem where indesign is changing the line spacing in a paragraph when I hit return. The typeface is 18 with spacing at 20. This doesn't change when I highlight the line above and the line below.Can anyone shed any light? This happens all the time.

My indesign file has a fixed white border around the entire page and I cannot figure out how to remove it. It is not on the master page. Nothing is locked in the file.  Shown below, if I create a large pink banner and want it to bleed off the top/sides, it appears to go behind the border.           <Title renamed by MOD>  

Hi   I'm doing  a project in Yiddish and need to change my binding direction to right to left. I can't figure out how to do that in InDesign 19.5. I gather there's no separate ME version of InDesign anymore. I don't see the option in Document Settings or Prefs.I've got the right to left paragraph styles working correctly, that's not the problem. Hi -  I'm trying to turn off "Facing Pages" for new documents. I have gone through the ritual of: File > Document Presets > Define. When the Document Presets dialog box appears, select [Default] from the Presets list and click Edit. Then Edit Document Preset dialog box. Proceed to turn Facing Pages off and click OK.   Except when I create a New Document, in the New Document dialog window it STILL shows Facing Pages checked. Any direction or advice would be greatly appreciated!!Thx!

This started a few weeks ago and no matter what I do the problem persists.    I have a 1440p HDR monitor, Windows 11 (latest) and only in indesign and only in the CC library panel, do I get graphical glitches. Without clicking anything, just simply moving my mouse, the pnel turns yellow and white, and gets brighter the more I ass over it.    I have tried with and without HDR enabled, I have gone through HDR configuration, I have tried resetting my GPU (RTX3060 12GB), but still the glitches persist and it makes it a nightmare to make my colour selelections.    Please see the screenshot and video capture.      <Title renamed by MOD>

I am under the impression that I cannot create/add custom brushes in InDesign for strokes.I am creating a number of sidebar text boxes that I would like to apply a custom brush (eg. charcoal line) around. This seems to be like it would be a very basic feature similar to Illustrator. Am I missing something?
