Update: Resolved after update to InDesign 19.5 64-bit.Am using InDesign 2024 version 19.1X64 on a computer running Windows 11 Enterprise version 22H2.All of a sudden, Windows Explorer stopped showing an InDesign application icon for files made and saved with InDesign 2024. Shows a generic icon instead. Curiously, InDesign Markup Language files show the correct program icon.   Note: redacted the file names in the screenshot because the docs are still in draft status.I right-clicked the file icon and chose properties, and INDD files are assigned to InDesign 2024.And I have used Windows 11's Default Programs control panel to map all INDD files to InDesign 2024.But the  icons for INDD files still show up generic.Do I need to uninstall and reinstall InDesign to get the correct icon to appear?

I'm working on a long document that I brought in from Word. I just placed it. Most of the text has the red squiggles. If I retype the text, it goes away. Makes it impossible to find real errors. Everything is set to English - I did have one paragraph style oddly set to Arabic, but I fixed it. I tried another suggestion of saving as a .idml but that didn't work. Any ideas?

During one of the upgrades over the past couple of years I have lost the ability to use my scroll wheel to move up and down the query list in the Find/Change window. I have read that there was a bug on the PC side but nothing on the Mac side. In the past I could scroll through each Find/Change query by simply rolling my scroll wheel one notch. I have changed from a Microsoft mouse to a new Logitech one to see if it was the mouse but nothing fixes it. I have tried the System settings for the mouse but nothing changes the scroll wheel increments. Now that it takes one or more notches to get to the next query, it often skips some in the list as it seems the notches no longer align with ID. Anyone else having this issue or is it just me? Can someone please help me? I am trying to 'publish online' a document but even though InDesign says 'successfully uplodaded' when I try to open the created link it gives the error: NO DOCUMENT FOUND. It is also a problem that yesterday I could still publish online successfully my portfolio and sent it out to companies but when I recheck it today: it leads me to a very old portfolio not the one I created yesterday - which is also quite a problem. I have already reinstalled InDesign, restarted pc, renamed the doc - nothing works. It is quite urgent. Can sy pls help me out?   

I primarily use Illustrator but have been in InDesign a lot lately to work on font combinations for a website. Is there a way to keep the fonts drop-down always open/expanded? Trying to speed up my workflow by avoiding constant scrolling, not to mention the occasional lag that trips me up when scrolling. I'm aware I can filter fonts to shorten the list, and also that I can star fonts to create a custom list.  Thanks in advance!   <Title renamed by moderator>

I have been asked to investigate using InDesign to prepare a Book for print. The Source is a 500 page Word Doc.  When importing the file (using "Place"), is it possible to keep the TOC and Footnotes, end notes, etc, dynamiclaly linked to page numbers? This is so that when formatting font sizes, the page numbers will change and the TOC, End notes references will need ot be updated. Of course this needs to be done automatically. Is it possible? Hi all.I'm really having trouble doing something bvery, very simple for some reason it just won't work for me.The issue is that I cannot reset zero point to 0-0 on top left hand corner of ANY page.ID v19.4I've tried the standard :1. "double click" to reset.2. Drag to the point I wish 0 to be.But even when I do this an image still shows co-ordinates nto "0"See screen shots below.You'll see the image location asX = 106.5mm and Y = 0This is even after I've dragged the Zero point to the desired location. It just won't work for me.As a side note, I also noticed at the same time this issue arose that when I adjust an image/text box the size increases equally on the left and right hand side of the box itself rather than the default of just expanding out to the right hand side.I'm just a bot lost tbhThanksThank you   <Title renamed by MOD>

Hi, I'd like to print these business cards with Vista Print, and I'd like to put some extra room on the edges where the picture extends so that there is no white space.  I think this is called bleed marks.  The bleed marks look good in InDesign, but then when I PDF-print them -- no matter what settings I choose! -- they do not indicate where the bleed is.  I've attached pictures of how it looks in InDesign (which I think I can send to Vista Print for them to make, cutting off the extra picture) and what it PDF-prints like -- which makes it seem as if all the extra picture is part of what I want in the card!  I hope this makes sense.....  Thank you!  Katherine   <Title renamed by Moderator>

Is there a way of pulling the original Indesign file from a Adobe Portfolio upload?Like a dumbass, I deleted the original Indesign file, so I need to recreate it. Je travaille avec plusieurs fichiers Indesign pour de la fusion de données avec des photos.Afin de vous expliquer au mieux mon probléme, voici un peu plus de détails :- Fichier Indesign 1 fusionner avec des photos profil RVB Adobe 1998 issu d'un fichier Indesign A- Fichier Indesign 2 fusionner avec des photos profil sRGB IEC61966-2.1 issu d'un fichier Indesign BLorsque je modifie l'espace de travail afin qu'il corresponde au profil de couleur des photos dans les onglets EditionCouleurs…Attribuer des profils…Convertir en profils…Les modifications se répercutent sur l'ensemble de mes Indesign, ce qui est fortement problématique et je n'arrive pas à savoir où se situe le probléme.Je suis sur Indesign 19.5. Merci pour votre aide !

I am using Align option to set these numbers nicely with the text. I have run into several issues. I have a larger text box for the page that is the margins. Then I have these numbers dragged in from my library. They are created in Illustrator and saved to the cloud library. It seems I can get them edge justified to the margin of the page using align but otherwise it does not seem that I am able to get align to work for me.  I would like to lay them in a more pleasing position with the text and make sure they are all properly spaced the same. I am aware of Key objects but not sure how to use this properly for this task either since I have one large text box as the page. Image of my issue attached.    <Title renamed by moderator>  

On two of our PC's InDesign feels slow/sluggish when exporting a file to either PDF or JPEG. It takes over 2 minutes before InDesign can be used again. I've tried to pinpoint the cause of the issues. The time it takes to export the file is the same if I use a networkshare or the local SSD. Both PC's have the latest version of InDesign (19.5) installed. I want to have a drop shadow from a photo that only shows up on select frames and not on the background, as shown in the example below. How do I do that?

Hi there, I'm using InDesign CC. Trying to hyperlink to my LinkedIn profile. I get a red light saying the URL is not available. The irony is that when I click on the red light it jumps to my LinkedIn profile. So the URL works and is available. I can't figure out why this won't work, and the last discussion related to something like this was two years ago and involved extended character escapes (which I've tried BTW).Help!

I'm trying to create a grep string that will subscript a symbol but only after specific words and not all instances of the symbol. In the example below I want the % subscripted when used after Melon and Apple but no other use of % should be subscripted.I cant figure out what I'm doing wrong?(?<=[Grape|Orange|Apple|Bananna|Avocado|Melon|Pineapple])% 

#InDesign #typography Some times type pops out of the text frame, what is this called? Is there a way to detect or automatically fix it. Does it matter? I have looked at the app.selection[0].lines[0].endHorizontalOffset, which seems to be clipped to the text frame. It was suggested that I look at the optical settings, but these did not change the appearance. If I export the frame the type is clipped. Is this a bug? *I have a motive this question, I have a plugin that can detect this effect. But, I would prefer a script. 

I use InDesign for lots of different things, but the main thing I use it for now is being the author/editor/typsetter/graphic designer of an ~900 page textbook. It has been very painful, and required lots of advice from the experts in this forum, but I have finally got it working. While the process for naming, backup and versioning that I have adopted is specific to this unusual use case, there might be elements of it that others think worth adopting, which is why I'm posting it; your mileage may vary. I will be very interested to see the replies and the good suggestions in them for different use cases. Naming: See the above screenshot. My filenames consist of several parts. They are designed to make my life easier when I'm looking at a Windows File Explorer or equivalent file display. (I use Directory Opus instead of Windows File Explorer, it's a lovely replacement for File Explorer. The screenshot above is Directory Opus.) The parts are:Textbook Name: the textbook's title is App

I'm using WIN 11 and have just downloaded InDesign to format a book.My cursor, which works everywhere else, does NOT appear while editing, etc.If I press the CTRL button, it does indicate where the curser is located, but it is basically unusable since I can't see it to choose items.I can drop it down to the bottom tool bar and see it, but when I moving it back into the program (not just the workspace) it disappears.I am not aware of setting any particular preferences (at least yet).I could use a little help here. Allen                                      

What is the devil? After moving the vertical text box multiple times, the text box text overflowsThe version is 19.5Sometimes it happens that left-aligned becomes right-aligned.Because I'm using the grid? 

Hi everyone,Does anyone know how to prevent InDesign from splitting names that are separated by commas at the end of a line? I’ve tried a few GREP expressions, but they haven’t been entirely effective. Any suggestions?

I have picture captions which I want to format with a full stop in a paragraph style (I would prefer it to just be in the style, not actually typing it, as it is not to be used in e.g. the ToC).Can this be done? In the GREP maybe (in that case how)?
