Question

Latin text inverted in the middle of Arabic text

I'm doing a layout in InDesign 18 that has Arabic and Latin text. Here are the steps I took in order for the Arabic text to correctly appear from R to L:

1) In Preferences, I changed the dictionary to Arabic;

2) In the PARAGRAPH box, I selected ADOBE WORLD-READY PARAGRAPH COMPOSER.

The text was placed in a box from a Word document.

After taking the steps above, the Arabic text looked exactly like the text on the Word document. Unfortunately, the Latin text (in Portuguese), was also inverted to R to L. I tried making a character style for the Latin text with the Portuguese dictionary selected, to no avail.

How can I select just the Latin text and have it from L to R?

Changing the language in preferences does not change the language of the text. There you can change the dictionary for each language.
Choose the main language, text direction in Paragraph Styles for the whole paragraph.
Exception of several words are done with a character style for different languages and or text directions.
Document set up does choose binding and main direction for the whole document.
In Object Styles you define the order of the direction in which order columns are filled.
etc.
