Why can't I open an Indesign file using the version of Indesign I currently have

My boss sent me an Indesign file and when I go to open it it says that it needs to be converted from an indd file to an IDML file. When I click convert, it isn't able to do it. Why can't I just open the INDD file on my computer?

Apparently your boss has a newer version of InDesign installed.

My Computer is a windows 12, Why can't I launch an upgrade for V20.0?

This is completely off topic from the original post. You should start a new post on your problem but do a search first.

However, there is no Windows 12--the lastest is 11. If you are having problems, it could be a hardware issue such as the processor.

Hi Christopher,

Sorry to hear about your experience. In addition to correct responses given byVladan & John, I'd recommend checking out this help article to know more about opening files.

Hope it helps.

you should tell us what version of indesign has your boss and what version of indesign have you?

Did you tell to your boss to save the file as idml and send it to you? Then you should be able to open that idml file and save it as indd
