Lightroom Classic 13.0.1 crashes my MacBook while attempting to upgrade my Lightroom 12 catalog

I cannot get Lightoom Classic 13.0.1 to upgrade my Lightroom 12 catalog. Every time I start Lightroom 13 and choose to have my (quite large) Lightroom 12 catalog upgraded my MacBook crashes (screen goes black and the Mac reboots itself) in the step "Upgrading Mask Data". Upgrading my other two (smaller) catalogs works fine. I even tried this on another Mac and there the very same thing happens. I'm at a loss so for now I am downgrading to Lightroom Classic 12.5 until this issue has been fixed in a new version of Lightroom.

I now think this particular issue has to do because for some reason my external USB drive where I store all my photos and catalogs has become faulty. Still not sure how and what but I have big problems trying to access it. This all happened while I was using the drive in Lightroom but at the moment it feels more like an issue with the drive itself. Not 100% sure. I will try switching my catalog to a different drive.
