Question

What happens to existing licensed copy of Lightroom when I subscribe to Lightroom Classic?

Hi, I have licensed versions of Lightroom (V 5.7) and Photoshop installed on my PC.  They work fine for the level of photography I do.  I am however, looking at subscribing to Lightroom Classic but am unsure what will happen with my existing licensed Lightroom and Photoshop applications, and more importantly, my existing Lightroom catalogue.  Do I lose the licensed applications and is moving my existing catalogue to an updated version of Lightroom a big undertaking? I'm quite happy to leave the existing catalogue separate and start anew with Lightroom Classic.  Any guidance would be appreciated,

I assume you mean the very old Lightroom 5.7 (maybe 8-10 years old now). Nothing happens to Lightroom 5.7 or Photoshop. You don't lose anything.

Upgrading the catalog to Lightroom Classic is as simple as can be. The designers of Lightroom Classic (and earlier versions of Lightroom) did a great job on this feature. Just open Lightroom Classic, and it should ask you if you want to upgrade your catalog file. If it doesn't ask to do that, do not import any photos, select File->Open Catalog and select your Lightroom 5.7 catalog.

Do not separate photos into old catalog and new catalog. Everything in the new catalog is the best way to proceed.

Yes, I have the very old versions 🙂 You've answered my questions spot on and thanks for doing that. Appreciated!
