Hi guys I shoot using a Canon c100 mkii with a Black Magic Video Assist. This question has probably been asked several times but I'm still no closes to solving my issue. I shoot at 23.97p in camera and because the BMVA does not do 3.2 pulldown on the fly I'm left with 29.97i wrapped footage as Prores 422HQ. I had converted footage through compressor before but I'm concerned that the reverse telecine in compressor is degrading my footage slightly. Is there a way to do this conversion in PPcc15 or in After effects without any quality loss? If so can someone explain how. Many thanks.

I have the same set up as you and sadly haven't found the right solution.... I use media encoder to convert the footage to 23.98 but cannot really tell if im losing quality or just afraid of thought of losing quality.

The Video Assist will record 23.976 ProRes files from HDMI input.  PsF is an option, but only from SDI.  And you don't have to choose PsF.  23.976p is also an option from SDI.

So I'm confused on why the issue?

Thanks for the reply Jim. Yeah the problem is the Canon C100mkii only has a hdmi out on it which sadly doesn't send out a true progressive signal, although it is uncompressed. The problem is that the camera says 23.97p and the BMVA can't read that as the canon can only output at 50 or 60fps. Apparently the data of the 23.97p is still there within the pro res 442 hq footage but it just has to be unraveled in post as the BMVA can't do the pull down directly

Got it.  That would do it.
