Question

consolidating (copy option, not transcode) is *orders of magnitude* slower than copying in finder

Whenever I use the collect & copy option in project manager to consolidate my projects for the colorgrading roundtrip, it's taking for ever even though I have fast SSDs connected.

It's annoying that it's not even transparent what exactly is happening, it's usually stuck on "analyzing" for a very long time but I can see the MXF file growing slowly. But very slowly. I have occasionally used it if I have time to let it run over night, but it shouldn't take literal hours for like a 30 or 90 second timeline.

For this reason I'm often forced to "right click > reveal in finder" every single clip in my sequence and copy it by hand because it's just so so so much faster even though the process is really tedious.

I'm using the most recent update of Premiere on an M1 Macbook Pro but I've had this problem going back years on other Macs (intel iMac, intel Macbook Pro, intel Xeon iMac Pro and more). I assume this issue just doesn't get noticed a lot because most people prefer the transcode option? I don't know, but it's a severe performance issue that really slows down my workflow.

By the way, even just cancelling the progress also takes like 5 to 10 minutes before Premiere becomes responsive again. I noticed that it's automatically deleting all already copied files for some reason and that also takes for ever. It's very strange since we're talking about such as simple function.
