cannot edit a text box

Community Beginner ,
Sep 08, 2023 Sep 08, 2023
I started a project I added a text box and I can edit the text. I added a second text box and I cannot edit the text. I can change font size and color but a cursor will not appear in the box allowing me to type text.

Hi @Georjanne31508869fn0u - Please see below for steps to edit text. These steps were pulled from the Updates for the new Adobe Express as of Sept 8th announcement.

Inline Text Editing

Adobe Express supports inline text editing within the design canvas. To edit text, you must first enter text editing mode using one of several methods. Below are two common ways to enter text editing mode.

1. For a text object that is neither grouped nor overlaid with others:

  • Double-click the text or
  • Single-click the text twice

2. For text objects that are grouped or overlaid with other objects:

  • Select the text object from the Layers panel
  • Press Enter on the keyboard

Neither of these 'solutions' work. The edit text box never appears any more no matter what I do.

Hi

@Jay36286972mvww

,

We're sorry to hear about this. Could you please let us know the process of how you're doing it? Since when have you been seeing this issue? Have you tried using the other suggested browsers (Safari, Microsoft Edge, and Google Chrome) to see if it makes a difference?

Try clearing the browser's cache and cookies to check if that helps and then give it a try.

Regards,

Tarun

Hi @finchster,

Sorry to hear about your difficulties. Could you explain more about the issue? Also, would it be possible to share some screenshots of the issue?

Thanks,
Dave

How can this be a thing??

Howdo I edit a text box on Adobe Express?
Double clicking doesn't work.

Single click..

Enter..

Right click

Left Click

No option menu

No panel that pops up

This is annoying as hell

This is also happening to me, but only when I start a new file using a template. Most of the templates have a texture at the very top that I need to lock first. Afterwards I can select the text boxes and can move/rezsize but am unable to edit the text. Double-clicking or anything mentioned as a solution does not solve the issue.

Please help Adobe!

I was having the same issue -- if I added text in Adobe Express, I could select it and sometimes delete it, but couldn't edit and add my own text. I just discovered, though, if you write your desired text in another application, copy it, go back to Adobe Express to select the text, and then paste it, that works. And then magically, the text box also becomes editable...  So something about copy and pasting seems to do the trick?

I resolved this same issue by switching my browser from Safari to Chrome.

I struggled with the same issue, changing the browser didn’t help. Finally, I realized the problem was with layers. When you click on the text box, it selects all layers underneath it, like a group. So, I selected the text object from the Layers panel and moved it to a place with no other layers. Then, double-clicking simply worked. Maybe it will be helpful.

Try left-clicking, then pressing Find and Replace ( Ctrl + F ). Now, you can type in the word you want to replace and then type in the replacement.

It's because the font needs to be changed. You may have uploaded a custom font that is no longer working for some reason or there is an issue with the font it is set to for some reason. I was able to edit it when I changed the font to something close to what it was.

Try opening the Layers panel. Hold shift while clicking the desired text layer. I've encountered similar issues like that and holding Shift while clicking the layer from the Layer panel, not the document, did the trick.
