After Effects Flashing black frames

AE 25.3.0 Build 71

iMAC 3.8ghz 8 Core i7

GFX AMD RADEON Pro 5700 XT 16GB

OS SEQUOIA 15.5

Hi all I am getting random 1 frame black flashed apperaing on previews and renders. Clearing out Cache and switching to draft/full quality doesnt cure it.

If I reload the footage the black frame clears, but randomly appears somewhere else.

Doesnt seem to be happening in the 25.4.0 BUILD 50 BETA

Thank you for your feedback on the Beta build. We have made the fix available to the non-beta build now. If you update to AE 25.3.1x3 in CCD, that contains this fix. Our apologies again for the issue.

Note: Once you have the build updated, make sure to empty your disk cache to ensure any badly cached frames are cleared out.

@DaveChap and that was after you updated to 25.3.1 and cleared your disk cache?

Here we are August 14 2025 and V 25.4  still has this issue.  I have several long EXR imports that flicker like crazy.   Converting to PNG helped a little but still has a few random flickers.   I'll try downgrading to 25.2 or something

I've also been having this issue for weeks. GPU drivers are updated, only thing that seems to help is setting to software only, but that sometimes still has black frames.

I also keep having this issue. Working with EXR sequences it keeps glitching, black frames and random gibberish colored frames.
This needs to be fixed. -_-

There was a secondary issue with EXRs. Please download the current AE Beta and see if that resolves the EXR issue you are seeing.

How do you get the Beta version?

The beta worked for me - i managed to render out without all the glitches.
Did have to get some of my plugins installed again etc. But this is positiv.

@martinc13962311 : In the Creative Cloud Desktop app -> under Apps in the sidebar and then the "Beta" tab.

The Beta version is not working for us. Still getting render errors! This is working with ACES CG Exrs and exporting ACES CG Exrs. This is putting a project at risk from this shocking software again!

@martinc13962311 are you able to share your project/assets with us to try to repro the issue you're seeing?

You can login to one of our machines but we can't share the projects on a live job. Some of the renders go without error but take 5 times longer!

@martinc13962311 You mention getting render errors. Is it the same errors that this thread is about (just confirming) or is it something specific to the files you're using? Did you mean to see things are working with ACES files?

So sorry for the delay, we had to deliver the project Friday.

The renders were on ACESCG renders out of C4D then out of AE. No errors out of C4D. The BETA did stop the errors. There is still general speed and stability errors using EXRs though. This is on multiple windows PCs. Mainly AMD threadrippper, 9950X3Ds and 9950Xs. Between 256-128GB RAM, 4090, 5080 AND 3090 gpus. All working over a 10gb network onto a NAS. Cheers
