Flickering Bug After Effects

Community Beginner ,
Mar 20, 2025 Mar 20, 2025

Okay, so I have a huge problem that I've been trying to fix for days, whenever I click on anything inside of my project the whole screen just flickers and when I use effects, it flickers, basically just when I do anything, it flickers like crazy, even when I'm previewing. There's a video attached to this post where you can see the problem, I really hope someone can help me🙏

If folks are still having this issue, I'd like to try to figure out if it's a few different issues or just one.

1. If you have footage that is flickering to black frames, please make sure you've upgraded to 25.3.2, then purge your disk cache, and then see if the problem persists. The latest version of AE has a fix for black frames showing up where footage should be.

2. If this is related to your comp panel itself flickering, not the footage, that is more likely related to a change to use a

Hi Nishu,

I believe I have an igpu in this work computer and have verified the drivers are up to date.

I'm attaching an image of the device and driver version.

Thank You,
Reed Scriven

You may need to go back to version 2024, which works fine, until the bug is fixed.

I'm having the exact same issue on what appears to be a similar but beefier Dell work comptuer. Specs attached. It appears to be an integrated gpu. It's perhaps worth noting that this issue did not happen on my home desktop which is custom built and definitely has a dedicated gpu.

Thanks!

I did it, but I couldn't open all the files that were made with the newest version of AE.

Hi Garrett,

My home desktop also is okay but for our work laptops the specific models of integrated gpus are listed as compatible devices for after effects so it seems like they need to address this in a software bug fix potentially?

Thanks,
Reed

Hi Reed,

Good to know it's the same for you. Agreed, I imagine this has something to do with the v25 and can hopefully be fixed in an update.

Thanks!

Nothing seems to be working yet. I'm hoping they can fix it in some future update soon. For now I deal with the flickering while editing. At least everything is fine once rendered.

Yes, if your project was created in 2025 version, you can't open it in older version unless you save to older version in 2025...

2. If this is related to your comp panel itself flickering, not the footage, that is more likely related to a change to use a different display library with 25.* builds. That is very much related to your GPU and GPU Driver, so if you're seeing that, please make sure you're as up to date as possible on the GPU driver. If you have multiple GPUs (integrated and dedicated), try disabling the integrated driver and see if that helps.

As you report any feedback, please help by indicating which issue you're seeing. Thanks!

Still having the problem. Updated to latest version of AE. I have the same driver as Reed Scriven listed previously and it is up-to-date. V24 works without the issue.
