After Effects Versions 22.5 to 24.2.1
Operating System: Windows 11 Pro
Memory: 96GB DDR5 RAM
Graphics Card: Asus TUF RTX 4080 OC with Studio Driver version 551.61
Processor: AMD 7950X (Note: I've disabled the integrated GPU to allow Premiere to decode ProRes Raw. If not disabled, I encounter a decoding error. This workaround, which I found in an Adobe Community forum thread titled "ProRes RAW can't be decoded" (Thread ID: 13123838), has been a temporary fix for nearly two years, yet a permanent resolution is still pending.)
All other ProRes Codec's work Flawlessly
In my project configured with OCIO color management set to Aces 1.2, importing ProRes Raw clips operates smoothly unless I precompose or add any effects. When effects like Lumetri Color are added, the preview freezes, and actions like purging RAM and cache or closing the project cause After Effects to crash. Switching to Adobe's color management and modifying the ProRes raw source settings in the 'More Options' of the Interpret Footage panel from the default BT.709 to S-Gamut3.Cine/S-Log3 resolves most issues. However, Warp Stabilization remains an exception, getting stuck on initializing without using the CPU, even for a short 10-second clip over 20-30 minutes, although previews and tools like Roto Brush work effectively. I haven't explored the impact of other effects on ProRes raw clips with Adobe's color management, as I've already dedicated several days to troubleshooting this over a few months. My multimedia workflow is optimized working in ACES, and I prefer ProRes raw files due to their seamless integration and speed with Roto Brush 3.0.
Given these ongoing issues, I am looking for a serious evaluation of this problem. Is it possible to have this recognized as a known issue? What are the plans for addressing the ProRes raw decoding issue in Premiere? Additionally, I'm considering reverting to using my iGPU for hardware acceleration in Brave Browser or for OBS use. I'm curious if others are encountering similar problems with ProRes raw in After Effects on Windows and how many have found workarounds or have given up.
I collaborated with several members of the adobe support team, allowing them to remotely access my system and perform various diagnostics.
We experimented by installing multiple different versions of the software, but this approach didn't resolve the issue.
I tried creating a new user profile to see if the problem persisted there, but unfortunately, it did.
I went as far as doing a clean install of Windows 2-3 times, yet the issue continued.
I removed all third-party plugins to isolate the problem, but to my frustration, this didn't fix the issue either.
I even enabled the integrated GPU (iGPU) to check if it made any difference, but the issue still persists.
At this point what do I do?
