I have tried uninstalling and then reinstalling, but that didn't fix it. Can anyone help me out?

Try switching to the Standard workspace and see if the search bar works better for you there.

It works when I undock the Effects and Presets panel, but it is really inconvenient to undock it. Is there anything else I can do? Screenshot 2024-06-27 at 5.38.14 PM.png

I'm using Adobe After Effects 2024, and here is my operating system:

Processor: 1.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5

Graphics: Intel Iris Plus Graphics 645 1536 MB

Memory: 8 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3

macOS Sonoma Version 14.4

It still doesn't work in any workspace I try.

So when it doesn't work, you can't type into the search bar at all? I'm noticing you have a purple highlight in your window, have you adjusted any hidden preferences to do that. Perhaps you have changed something else in the preferences which has broken the search bar.

Yes, I cannot type anything into the search bar. When I type on my keyboard after clicking on the search bar, nothing happens. Here is the tutorial I used with the preference changes I made for the purple highlight you mentioned. https://youtu.be/LAv5m694F3Q?si=7zKMEa9-7miA2omK

Let's see if the preferences are the issue. After starting AE, go into Preferences, Startup & Repair and find the button to go into Safe Mode. That'll restart AE. See if the effect search is working then. If it is, I'd suggest after restarting AE to reset your preferences (you'll be prompted) and see if the search continues to work.

I reset the preferences, and I am still having the same issue.

Are there any third-party plug-ins installed? Go to Effects > Manage Effects, disable all third-party plug-ins, and restart After Effects. Disabling the plug-ins is temporary, you can enable them later. Let us know the outcome.

Thanks,
