I've started getting this error message every time I quit After Effects (I updated to 13.6.1 today and I'm still getting it, I started getting it on the previous update). I have to dismiss several instances of the error message every time.
The projects re-open no problem and everything seems to be fine.
It just happened on a project that has a single comp consisting of a psd as a guide layer, a video layer with Keylight, levels, and hue and saturation effects applied, and a looping background later. No exotic effects or anything.
Anyone else getting this? Any idea what the cause and/or solution is?

Same problem.
I know my computer is not the optimal machine to work with heavy renders but this message had never appeared to me before. And I had worked with heavier projects (effects with thousands of particles, blurs and shadows and chromas... etc). Any idea to solve it?

Update---I'm finally in contact with Adobe, AE Engineer, regarding this issue. I sent him the link to our forum blog. Here is what he said...
The problems you describe are bugs, and some of the bad behavior is known. Other behavior I will need your assistance to isolate the problems.
The first forum thread you reference is about the "Internal Verification Failure, sorry! {Stuff not in the right sortdir}” error messages that happen on closing a project or when quitting After Effects. We have a bug filed on this. The error is indicative of a memory problem, but because it only occurs when closing the problem it doesn’t block After Effects from being used.
Your description below, however, implies that you are receiving different types of “internal verification failure” messages that are blocking your work, causing freezing or other issues. Can you be more specific? Are you able to reproduce the problem with a specific set of steps, or in a specific project? Screenshots or screen recordings would be very helpful for me here. We fixed some bugs that produce the “internal verification failure” in our upcoming release of After Effects, but I can’t say if your problems will be affected until I understand more about it.
Are any of you having issues while working like I am? Video blinking and disappearing (especially while using keying plugins)? Any specifics you can provide in this thread he will see. thanks

Never had issue before. I ended up re-installing El Capitan and that particular problem has not reoccurred.
Good luck.

I'm getting the same error message, running Windows 7. Also there seems to be a huge memory leak causing all sorts of problems. This all happened after updating to sa(i)d version. I thought, surely 2015 is stable and okay by now... guess not 😞 Technical debt anyone?

To be a bit more specific i have some screenshots!
Before launch, things are looking good:

Some time later:

Already starting to get weird funk in my viewer, i'll show:
Layer solo, everything is fine:

Same frame, not solo: (nope, nothing above, no continuour rasterize, just weirsness)

It's starting, windows advises to stop AE as it's hoarding my 64Gigs of ram like a bowl of candy in front of children:

Purge memory before AE destroys itself:

.... after a second purge somehow my lost frame is back!

Great stuff!
Some details:

Allright, so, closing for fun: (great error message btw)

Stuff is also not in the right bag!

It's probably because all bags are used to store cash generated by subscription fees. I'm guessing all that's left is shitty bags with holes 😉
Getting back to work now. Dev's, i hope this is of some use to you. Nothing worse then random people screaming stuff does not work. I hope you like my images... Bye!

Wow. That is a lot of screenshots. Now, I would expect AE to take up a lot of memory. It caches previews to RAM, but it shouldn't take so much that it crashes your system! Could we see a screenshot of your memory preferences?
I couldn't quite make out the structure of your project to see why you would have disappearing content, but it may be something weird with caches. You are running 13.7.1.x, right?
There should be a new version of AE coming out relatively soon. They've done sneak peek videos and demo'ed it at NAB. It's supposed to have a much more stable preview system. I'd suggest giving it a try when it comes out. (Remember, during install, install it alongside your current version and don't let the CC app do its default of removing "old" versions, just in case the new version has something weird about it.) In the past three years, the new version of AE has come out towards the end of June, so if the schedule is similar this year, it should be out within the next week or two! ![]()

Thanks, i did my best! It's okay ae uses a lot of RAM but it should also free up some if needed. This does not seem to happen.
The frame definetely has something to do with the ram issues. I'm thinking it's something in the viewer. Perhaps it has to do with shared memory with other applications. I get errors in other tools (nuke for instance) once the ram has been occupied.
Here's some stuff on the RAM

I'd still like a screenshot of your memory preferences in AE.

hi,
i have the same problem here. many messages like this:
After Effects error: internal verification failure, sorry! {stuff not in the right sortdir}
After Effects error: internal verification failure, sorry! {stuff not in the right bag}
sometimes juste two or three, but sometimes ten !
did someone find the reason ?
thanks!

Greetings from 2016 - I too have the same error when utilizing Trapcode Form in Ae.
No solution for me other than force quitting or restarting Ae without a force quit....

There are a few bugs with AE on Sierra and it is not yet officially supported on that OS. So, that may just be an OS/AE compatibility issue. The next release of After Effects should be good to go on Sierra.

I wish they'd fix this already. After Effects used to be the most stable piece of software I owned, but that was a long time ago. It's become a buggy mess. I'm beginning to think this internal verification error will never be straightened out.

Same problem here. AE 14.0.1.5. OSX 10.11. I manage several users, and they report this issue on closing project.

The good news is that this error isn't a very threatening one. It's just mildly irritating to the user.
Side note: you should consider updating to 14.1.0.x, there are a rather large number of bug fixes in that update. ![]()

It happens frequently enough to be more than irritating...and ultimately it should be embarrassing to Adobe. Upon quitting or closing projects I get dozens of these messages "Not in the right bag" and other obtuse errors which I have to individually click OK repeatedly. I'm also on an iMac 5k Retina.

I am up to date on AE, 14.1.0.57. Getting the same behavior after a project with Trapcode form and 4K PSD files. But, yes appears to be a memory runaway. Purged at one point so I could open Illustrator to work on some titles. Exceedingly annoying as these threads seem to span at least two years, multiple versions and updates, and both primary OS (Mac and PC). Just because it "doesn't seem to affect anything" does not mean it should not be fixed.

I get this error too as well as another, similar error afterwards. This is when closing After Effects (AE CC 2017 ver 14.2.1.34). Project had 1 video (on 2 layers) and 2 used image layers and used the Keylight keyer and masks and some painted erasing.

This is probably one the most stupid errors I have seen lately, and one among the most annoying.
I thought the errors were supposed to let you know something significant about what just happened, however this "bag" thing is so stupid that it is a complete waste of my time to even read and click this useless dialog box.
FYI I am using the latest and "bestest" update from CC (AECC 2017.2 release, version 14.2.1.34)

I only get this error message on my projects where I use the paint tool. Moreover, I am getting so many error messages every time I use brush strokes. If I have used a lot of brush strokes in a project, I keep pressing the enter key to close these messages after closing the program.
