I looked through the archives for a similar question/answer and found nothing for this.
AE 17.5.1
iMac Mojave 10.14.6
I'm making a very simple camera move that just moves ahead and has several objects at different z-spaces. However a couple of elements are not in the correct z space (see example) they should be either in front of certain objects or behind and I cannot figure out why it wont.
I am using png's, psds and illustrator assets. I have never had this issue before...any help would be appreciated.

Cropped screenshots are not useful when we can't see critical stuff like layer switches, effects applied, possibly layer styles and whatnot, even nmore so since you haven't offered any other details of your project. This can literally be anything from a odd combination of layer switches to some effect or layer style breaking 3D rendering order. Impossible to tell.

Make sure you haven't applied a blending mode. Also make sure that the layers ahead are not the same layers but duplicated.

Be mindful of other layers you may have in between these in your layer stack. For example, a 2d adjustment layer will break the 3d render order (which you can do intentionally as well!)
Start your troubleshooting by turning off all the layers, then start enabling them one-by-one and see when it breaks your intended look. Extra layers, the way you've precomped something, your 3d engine, etc. could all be potential culprits.
