Adding items to composition but start from timeline

I know you press Command+/ or just drag and drop items to compositions but

is there a shortcut/way to add your elements/assets into the composition but to start begin its first frame from where your timeline's needle is.

If I understand what you are saying, yes there is.

Drop the items in the comp, place your timeline needle, select the layers, then press the [ key.  It's the left bracket.

That lines up the beginning edge to the needle.

You can also change the behavior in preferences.
