Hi there, thanks for writing in. We're here to help.

Do you have the Grid enabled? If so, can you check if disabling the Grid helps? If that doesn't bring any change, do you mind sharing a screen recording of the issue to help us understand it better?

Looking forward to your reply.

Thanks,
Nishu

Here's the video of the lag. Before the update, there was no delay when dragging the time indicator. Now, even though I'm not using full resolution, there is a noticeable delay, and the playback is also delayed.

Thanks for sharing the screen recording. I can see the issue. Could you let us know the make and model of the CPU and GPU? Also, what is the version of the GPU driver?

Please try the following:

  1. Try running After Effects in Safe Mode.
  2. Can you try disabling the Hardware Accelerated Composition, Layer, and Footage Panels in After Effects preferences > Display?
  3. Go to File > Project Settings > change the renderer to Software Only.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Nishu

Thanks for your patience.

First, your computer does not meet the minimum system requirements for After Effects (it doesn't have 4GB VRAM), which could cause performance issues. I understand that you have disabled all the layers, but I see the Shy button enabled, so there could be layers that are enabled.

Is it happening with all the files? Is it a template that you're trying to edit? Please create a new project and check the performance.

Let us know the outcome. Moving this thread from Bugs to Discussions for troubleshooting.

Thanks,

Nishu

ignore the responses that say you only have 4GB of ram, when you stated you have 32 gigs with a modern, if low powered 8 core CPU. However, a 35W apple machine from 2 years ago would do perfectly fine if someone is to be believed, so that's fine.

It's a bit of a tradition, now, that every time they put out a new release, it's filled with bugs, is poorly supported by random hardware here or there, and you're intended to be their beta tester because you'll do it for free or the software you paid for won't work right.

TLDR: your computer beats mine, and I can run the software... okay. I can run CS6 fast, and CS3 was blaizng fast on a weak gradeschool library computer. So yeah, this is expected behavor. not intended by any means, but it's now what we expect from Adobe. It's not you, it's the software.

the only things I might suggest are to turn off hardware acceleration, and maybe play with turning off multi-frame rendering. your CPU is mostly E-cores, and AE is naive, so it's probably not prepared/able to give them less work.

Strong PC with a 4070 here and the UI panels take about 4 seconds to update individually every time I switch back to AE.

Had this very same issue but found a solution after spending too much time chasing what I thought was a hardware problem.

All v24 versions appear fine including the final v24 release

v25.0, 25.01 both appear fine but perhaps not quite a smooth as v24 (this may just be subjective)

v25.1 is broken.

I've rolled back to version 25.01 and disabled updates for now.

Hey, Same.

I've been running AE 17 for the last 5 years, great performance. Smooth as butter EVERY project.

Today I decided to update to 2025. The interface is lagging like crazy! Using the tools on screen is like pulling teeth even with reduced resolution.  The text tool and dragging items on screen is at the point where I can't get anything done.

What's causing the delays? I have plenty of RAM, the interface shouldn't be running this slow. Might try a rollback.

UPDATE:
Been a while, I updated the Nvidia Video Driver, and version 24 working smooth and screen is back.
Had to reboot the PC and open a previous file. Good luck!
