My AE project will not open. It shows the loading screen and the beach ball of death. Caps lock trick won't work and I have purged all memory and Disk Cache. All the backups will not open either. I have hours put into this project so any assistance will really help.

I saved and went to another project. When I tried to open the master project after a while it stays at 0%...

Try making a new project and importing your other project into this one. Sometimes that can be a workaround.
Fingers crossed for you!

Another thought - do you have a lot of attached media? You could try moving all of that to another folder (to manually force it to be unlinked), in case one of those is causing the problem. If you can open the project with everything unlinked, that's certainly a big step in the right direction.

Maybe try bringing that project file to your local drive, see if the external is causing the issue?

Kyle's advice is solid. Also try purging all caches and memory too

Thank you Guys, really appreciate the suggestions. Tried all of the above but none worked. I think there is something corrupted in the header. I am old school and save every 5 or 10 minutes when working on a project. My mistake was not doing a save as and testing the copies. The project was open for 3 days without closing and had about 18 hours of work on it.

Back to the start - wiser...

If you do know any other methods please post. There are tweaks in the initial project that are unique and I am not sure if I can improve on it.

Oof. That's a shame. I'm sure we've all been there - even with best practices, sometimes things go astray.

Did you have some exports at least, as a guide?

I had this same problem with a file I had saved two months ago. I had updated AE a few times since then, I'm on AE 15.1.2. I did all the usual tricks (mentioned in this thread), none of them worked. It always crashed on open/import. My file was small (7.8 mb) and no external files were being referenced.

I managed to open my file on a version AE 15.0.1. and saved a copy for CC14 and CC13. I was able to open both version on my AE 15.1.2. I saved it as a new project and reopened it. Seems to have fixed the file. Now I'm trying to think of other project I did recently that might be affected.

Hope this helps.

This worked for me. The issue was the dynamically linked premier file.

Thanks
