Hello,
Has anyone experienced the following issue and found a solution for it?
Right after Update to El Capitan 10.11 the After Effects 2015 stopped ram previewing in real time.
No matter what i do it won’t work.
I have a latest MAC Pro 2.7 GHz 12-Core with 64GB ram.
The AE 2014 still works though.
Everybody who is having this issue please install the latest update: After Effects CC (November 2017) Bug-Fix Update Is Now Available that is supposed to finally close this thread for good! please report if this issue has been resolved. ![]()
if you can't see the update yet, wait a while until you see it. try relaunching Creative Cloud app by typing Ctrl+Alt+R. I see it.

this update is 14.0.1 and is a bug fix for many disturbing issues especially for Mac users. it does not fix all the bugs that are new

Can't seem to find if this was answered or not. Anyone know if this has been fixed in CC2017? I'm using the previous version on Sierra on a top of the line 2013 iMac w/ 32GB of ram (still blazing fast on a non-Retina screen too), so I don't understand why I'm having this issue. Essentially, makes AE unusable from a workflow perspective. In order for me to preview, I have to move the timeline / work area out of view and then preview.

Still not fixed. I'm using 2017 on 2015 5K iMac 32GB RAM. Makes AE almost unusable without annoying workarounds.

I know it's not, but it worked for me until the updates. So, not sure what to tell ya. Try Uninstalling and reinstalling?

CC 2017 fixes some bugs that previous versions have on Sierra, but this one's not fixed yet, no. Keep your eyes out on the release notes for the next bug fix though. The AE team has said this bug is a high priority, so hopefully the fix comes soon.
Rather than having the move the timeline out of the way, if you have one screen, try this: press the ` (grave key [same key as the ~ {tilde key}]) with your mouse over the composition panel to make it full screen while running a preview. See if that does it without you having to bother with moving panels around.

Thanks Szalam but the tilde key and going fullscreen still doesn't work
I'll wait for the new release...

...also, grids/rulers/guides is buggy as hell too - haven't been able to use the grid for past 3 or 4 jobs.

except for the preview playback issue on hi-res screens (in which case, CC 2014 is the way to go).
These hi-res screens have been out and in play for 3 years now, and yet Adobe is still making excuses and blithely saying, "Just run the 3 year old version of our software that somehow still works consistently while you continue to pay monthly for our repeated failures."

Last week when I spoke to client, this didn't happen:
"Yeah, your video showcase won't work on windows machines, and stutters if you stream it on Chrome or IE. I couldn't get English language audio to work and I had a quick go at your logo. It looks a bit (expletive deleted), but you can tell it's yours, yeah?
What? You want your money back? That's what you pay my retainer for?
No, sorry - you have to pay me my retainer every month even if I give you (expletive deleted). That's how I roll.
Why didn't I warn you about this turd I just posted to all your customers?
Well, I did write about it in my last blog.

Working professionals who have deadlines are paying for nearly unworkable software because for over a year we've been told over and over again that we are "priority" and it will be fixed in the next update. We're paying for the software through multiple updates, and have been let down over and over. This is unacceptable.

This update has so far made this the first working version of AE I've had since 2014. Thank you. Finally.

I'm so glad it seems to have fixed this for everyone! It hurt my heart that some people with the lovely new iMacs were stuck using old versions of AE. I'm sure the AE team is glad to finally have it solved too!

Now that most of us can breathe a sigh of relief after this two year nightmare, perhaps we focus on fixing annoying things Adobe did along the way, like removing the scroll bar from the array of project tabs above the timeline? ![]()

They may have taken that away, but you can scroll up there and it behaves much nicer than it used to. In fact, much better than the scroll bar. ![]()
Remember, Adobe.com/go/wish for things you would like to see get changed.

I know it's not the right forum to complain about this, but since you responded I have to say that the scrolling action on this bar is in no way an improvement, rolling through 100 open comps for versioning is incredibly painful. At least with the scroll bar you could fly through and land exactly where you needed to for the comp you wanted to open. Now it literally opens every comp as you scroll, and if they are intensive render-wise, it bogs your whole system down. Adobe, PLEASE stop breaking what wasn't broken in the first place!

For what it's worth, I filed a feature request to bring the scroll bars back too. ![]()

I agree. the hand scrolling that was introduced in 2015.3 is much nicer:

Which requires you to switch to the hand tool, which is very annoying. ![]()

Hi Szalam,
can you answer this question:
will AE 2017 work on a MacBook Pro Retina properly? And also with two 24" external Screens (1920 × 1080 px) connected to it?
Or does the Retina Display has a too high resolution for running AE 2017/Sierra.
I dont want to risk anything so I haven't updates AE nor OS Sierra.
Thanks in advance!

You don't have to risk anything to try out CC 2017.
For the record, yes, it should work. IF AE is updated to 14.0.1.
But you don't have to guess and hope. Remember, when you push the "update" button in the CC app, you get a screen that has a little "advanced options" twirl-down. Twirl it down and untick the "remove older versions" option and the CC 2017 release will install alongside any other versions of AE you have installed. Your CC subscription is not just for the latest version of AE. It includes CS6, CC, CC 2014, CC 2015, and CC 2015.3 in addition to the CC 2017 release. They can all be installed alongside each other without causing any issues. And you can "save as" out of CC 2017 (After Effects version 14) down to version 13 (which can be opened by CC 2014, CC 2015, and CC 2015.3 which are all version 13).
I make no claims about Sierra. I haven't updated to it in my freelance studio, so I have no experience with it whatsoever. CC 2017 is the only version of AE that is officially supported on Sierra. So, if it doesn't work for you, you'd be screwed. I wouldn't want to update too many things at once. If I were you, I would try out the new version of AE (make sure it's updated to version 14.0.1) and go that way for a while before messing with your OS.

I installed bug fix yesterday and thought "Finally, it's good now". Working now, same problem, no realtime playback (old issue on CC 2015 and CC 2017)
Mac OS Sierra, Mac Pro, 2 x 2.4 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon, 64 GB Ram
It's becaming really frustrating, we're trying to do some work here and all we want is stable and realtimeplayback working piece of software, are we asking too much?

Sign out of creative cloud, sign back in, install the new updates. It worked for me. No problems with playback anymore. I'm on Mac running latest Sierra OS
