Click on the INFO panel to show if AE is playing in realtime. WHen you have audio in your composition, After Effects needs to cache audio and video to play in realtime so the first time playback while caching, the sound is "creepy". The second playback should be fine if the panel info shows REALTIME. Anyway, using MP3 audio files is not recommended. Try to change the audio to an uncompressed format like AIF or WAV using Adobe Media Encoder.

Hi wumbow,
I hope you're not encountering the issue anymore. Jose rightly mentioned that MP3 is not a recommended format. Did you change the format to WAV?
Let us know.
Thanks,
Rameez

I gave up on it for a while. I tried and nothing worked. I asked a few people who used ae on a screenshare and they cant even explain the problem. They told me the same thing you guys did

Also depends on how much memory you have in your system, the state of your cache drive, and the nature of your assets.
I also see by the blue bar in your timeline that from 15 to 45 is cached and that nothing is being written to memory.
All of this makes me wonder if you are simply trying to edit a four and a half minute video in After Effects with a full cache and insufficient memory.
I suggest purging the cache and memory and trying to work in small 5 or 10 second intervals that your cache and memory can handle.
Also you might consider moving the project to Premier which is an editing program rather than trying to use AE which is a post effects compositing program.

Yes there is.
Go to Preferences / Memory / RAM reserved for the other applications.

What's a good ram to put at

Approximately one third of your total memory should be put in "RAM reserved for other applications". Like in my screenshot, I have 16GB so I set 5GB. That means that the Adobe applications wil be use 2 thirds of the total RAM.

I think the music sounds good the way it is. I imagine it's that horrible generic public domain techno beat at full speed.

Disable it & Enjoy.
That's happening because of low CPU performance.
