After effects current time indicator and playhead

Hello,

I have what is probably a stupid question, with a simple answer: I cannot move the play head with the cursor.
I've imported a video and a jpg and moved them onto the timeline, but can't do a thing from here.
I see from tutorials that the playhead should be green: mine is blue.
I have tried adding a keyframe to no avail.
I'm using a PC if that helps, and CC 2019.
I'm a complete novice but familiar with other Adobe CC programs.
Any advice eagerly accepted.

Ctrl/Cmnd + right arrow moves the CTI (current time indicator) one frame to the right. Ctrl/Cmnd + left arrow moves the CTI one frame to the left. Adding shift to the shortcut moves the CTI 10 frames at a time.

All of this info is in the User Guide. You should make yourself familiar with it. A couple of hours here: Basic AE will save you days of frustration.

I've gone to the tutorials and started watching and reading.
I realise what the issue is: the timeline isn't showing any seconds or frames.
I'm moving the cursor one frame, but that frame is taking the entirety of the visible timeline.
I realised this from an image that I found from another post of yours.

Sounds like you've created a composition that's one frame long.

Yes, I realised that this is exactly what I had done and now it's all fine.
I'm now reading/watching all the tutorials.

Glad you found.  That is exactly what I was thinking too.  I presume now, you have gone in to composition settings, extended the length and then extended your images (or video).

In the tutorial you see the playhead as green that mean it's cached on the ram and your's is blue so it's a disc cache,

so to get yours green also you must cash your frames before ram preview. so to do this follow the below image.
