Anyone else have a problem of After Effects locking up when you "Show Grid"?

It happens EVERY TIME I try it.

This is a known issue, and the After Effects team is working on it. The first patch releases usually come within 2-3 weeks after the main release, which is about now or next week, so I would expect this to be fixed very soon. Until then, unfortunately, there's no workaround.

There is a workaround to this bug. Try editing the preferences for better performance. There is no visual difference between subdivisions and gridlines (first part of the bug) so try going to Preferences>Guides and grids and setting the spacing to something like 60 pixels and subdivisions to 1. You can significantly improve performance even further by setting the display to dots instead of lines. You can then set the proportional spacing to something like 8 and 6 or 8 and 4. That should help significantly.

Select the comp panel press Alt/Option + ' then Ctrl/Cmnd +' to view both the grid and the Proportional Grid. If you do a little simple math you can get the dots and the proportional grid arranged into something that gives you an easy to use reference.

2-3 weeks huh? This looks like another known issue that is going to drag on...

Well all I can do is guess and go by history. Premiere and several other apps already had their first patch release in that time frame, whereas After Effects has not. All I can guess is that it will be out "soon."

This is pretty typical of Adobe's response time to issues if you ask me.

Yep, AE 16.0.1 released 2019-01-11 fixed it for me.
