I am having problems with AE becoming increasing slow to render. The only way to fix it is to restart.
If I restart my machine a simple render of some HD footage and PNG images takes 31 secs.
I I make any amends, even move something 1 pixel, then re-run the render it takes 30min+!
I have also randomly experiencing when exporting ProRes, some video are squashed up into the top half and the bottom of the video is solid green. Again, the only way to fix this once this starts is a restart.
I am on Macbook Pro M1 Max Pro, 64 gig ram.
When the problems start it never uses more than 1% of RAM, whereas before problems it uses much more RAM.
Any ideas - this is driving me crazy!

you didn't mention your AE release number, because as I notice adobe fixed a lot of issues regarding the M1 in every release

I've been having similar issues with the squashed renders lately. What I've gotten to work without restarting is purge all memory & disk cache, and then go and delete all auto-saves and all AME logs and the temp .aep files. It seems to me to be something with memory/cache. I'm on version 22.5.0 (build 53). I'm rendering from project files that previously never had any issues. Older projects that I've rendered countless times with no issue. This issue has only started in the last 2-3 months.

I can't speak for Mac OS and you do mention rendering in AE, so this might not be applicable, but when rendering in Media Encoder on Windows, if you get issues, using Task Manager to kill AE, causes the program to restart but using less RAM, freeing it up for AME. Can you try similar on Mac?
