Hi, I`m trying to develop plugins for After Effects but i can`t even open a project. I get this error :

"The project consist entirely of configurations that require support for platfroms which are not installed on this machine. The project cannot be loaded."

What can I do ? What I need to install ?

it means you are trying to open cs5 sdk project on an non-64 bit configured visual studio.

if you're using VS2008 express, take a look at this thread:

the .rrc file is an intermediate file used to generate a binary resource file. (what you see in the project as the .r file)

the compiler tool can't find it for some reason.

usually that's because the AE ASK was installed to a non-default path.

it should be in c:program files... wherever the installer wants it to be.

if you installed to a different location, that problem can occur.

if that is the case, then the easiest solution is to re-install the AE sdk to it's default install path.

if that's not the case, or you wish to keep the SDK in a different location, then you have to change the definitions of the custom build step of the resource file.

see the properties page of the resource file in the project and you'll see the step commands.

it's not easy to change them, so if you're just starting to develop, i'd recommend the first solution. (if that's the problem at all)

hmmm...

perhaps the new version doesn't deploy using an installer...

that's strange because the SDK relies on some environment variables to be

set.

i don't remember the install path by heart, mainly because i set up my

system to have the SDK in a shared drive the the mac.

see if you can find the installer for an older version of the SDK, just to

see where it should belong.

and also maybe that installer will setup the correct environment on your

system.

The compiler can't find the ".rrc" file because it wasn't compiled. Looking at the logs the PiPL (".r") file isn't compiled because the resource compiler couldn't find "AE_Config.h" Make sure you have the include files setup right in the Project settings. Also, for ".r" files the include files are setup in the Custom Command Line settings.

@shachar The SDK needn't be installed in the program files. The environment variables are only required for output build files.

The project which I`m trying to open is an example from Adobe. It should be ok. I tried several examples and i get errors .

I have another question. Suppose I solved this problem, how i get the .aex file ? How I make my code secure ?

In that picture, it shows that the configuration you are compiling is Windows Phone 7 Emulator.  This isn't something that ships in the AE SDK.  The configuration you should see is called "Debug", which is a 64-bit configuration.  Perhaps the configurations were affected earlier when you opened the project without any 64-bit Visual Studio components installed.  It may be simplest to just restart with a fresh version of the SDK.

Also, why not start using the latest SDK?

No, Windows Phone 7 isn`t the problem. In fact, it doesn`t affect at all.

gutsblow is correct. the compiler shows that AE_Config.h can not be found.

that means that in one way or another, the include paths a wrong.

that would be a good place to start looking for the probelm.
