animate vector layer

These are spotlights in a club, which I want to animate by manipulating their shapes. They are currently in vector format.

Is it possible in AE to change/animate the position of the nodes in each shape layer?

Moving them with the Position does work like with a raster shape layer. Note that I'm not talking about animating 'along' a path.

I'm just looking for different ideas and possibilities, thanks.

To get access to the actual path information in a vector layer you have to convert it to a shape. Then you can keyframe the path,

If you want to transform any other type of layer then there are distortion tools available in the Effects>Distort menu.

Agree with Rick that it's best to convert to shape layers. Not just for flexibility of changes but also for speed and efficiency in the file.
