Animating anticipation/follow through using position keyframes

New Here ,
Jun 15, 2021 Jun 15, 2021

I've got a shape moving along a simple diagonal path with a start point and end point.

I would like the shape to anticipate it's movement by moving backwards a bit before moving along the path, and then overshoot the end point by a little bit before coming back to rest on the end point.

Is there a way to do this with two keyframes? When I try to add additional keyframes to handle the extra movement, I can't seem to get it to look natural. I'd prefer to just handle it with a curved path of some sort.

Hi NotSeanT,

Thanks for writing in.

Unfortunately, it can not be done with two keyframes properly. To achieve natural movement, you may need to do it manually. Here's a YouTube tutorial that could help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GxI79tdXM4&ab_channel=SchoolofMotion

You can search for a third-party plug-in to make your job easier. Here's one that I found which could be useful: https://aescripts.com/overlap/

Let us know if it helps.

Thanks,

Nishu

The Ease and Wizz scripting tool at aescripts.com provides loads of physics-based variations to keyframe animation, allowing bounces, slides etc.  Well worth experimenting with, and you can name your own price to pay.
