My after effects has been lagging so much for the past few days and I am suspecting that it's because of the recent 24.5 update since I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with my laptop. Just want to make sure if anyone else is having the same problem?

My Dynamic link has gone absolute bonkers. Having Massive issues with linking files etc. Absolute nightmare... Can't say for sure - but havent had these issues before.

Is the preview also lagging for you? Even with a very simple animation?

Yes, first it had a problem migrating settings, then when I open a project I get the spinning wheel for eternity. I force quit, try again.
This seems bad. (On Mac Studio M2 Max w/32 GB RAM)

Hi all,
I'd love to investigate it. Can you share your system specifications (CPU, GPU, RAM, OS version)? Please share more details on what exactly is happening? Is it the preview, interface or anything else that not behaving how it should. Also, is it happening specifically in 24.5? Feel free to share a screen recording that shows the problem.
Thanks,
Nishu

I'm using ASUS ROG Flow X16 16GB RTX3050Ti Windows 11.
I'm having problems with very slow preview and interface. I tried downloading older versions of AE but it is still very slow as well.
As you can see from the recording, even moving a simple box is very slow, and the preview is lagging as well.

@romantic_fantasy5EDE ask for a CS6 copy and see how that does you. It's no CS3 but it gets the job done.

Thanks for sharing the details and screen recording.
I can see the problem. Are there any third-party plug-ins installed? Can you try running After Effects in Safe Mode with third-party plug-ins disabled? If that doesn't help, go to After Effects Preferences > Display > disable "Hardware Accelerated Composition, Layer, and Footage Panels".
Let us know how it goes.
Thanks,
Nishu

Intel i7 6700k with a 1070 and 32gb of vram. It ran better on ye olde gtx 560 and intel i7 2600k with 8gb of ram Back then in 2011 I was getting 20-30fps playback on 6-10 1080p plates, now I can barely manage 17fps on 1080p if I only use a filter or mask.
