Audio Amplitude layer is crashing my AE file every time I open the Channel slider

Hi all,

I'm having an incredibly frustrating issue within the AE 2025. I am trying to do a simple Audio React effect on some layers using an Audio Amplitude layer (created by Keyframe Assistant -> "Convert Audio to Keyframes" selection with the track I am using). Once I remove the Left and Right channel, and open the "Both Channels" slider that is generated, and the moment I interact with any of the slider keyframes or try to add an expression to adjust the threshhold, I get a stopwatch cursor that never goes away. I have to force quit After Effects every time. AE isn't even giving me a "Not Responding", I simply cannot click or type anything within the program.

I've tried starting new files and doing the same task, and getting the same result. I've uninstalled and reinstalled After Effects, restarted my computer multiple times. No solve.

This is such a basic effect and is integral to my current project. It's crazy how it immediately makes the program useless the second I click on the slider. If I don't open the layer, my file is fine. I can even pick whip a transform effect to it and it'll work, but I can't write any expressions to adjust the frequency threshhold, which desperately needs tinkering for the effect I'm looking for.

I am on a M1 Max, with 64 gigs of ram.

I've attached a photo of the slider selected. This is all I've done and it crashes the program every time.

Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Eric,

Thanks for writing in with your issue. I believe you are hitting a known issue. You may want to roll back to the previous version for now. A workaround might be to use the pick whip instead of typing expressions. Sorry for the frustration.

Thanks,
Kevin
