When I import my video into AE & drag it into my composition, for some reason background sounds eg music, other diegetic sounds are audible but the actual dialogue from the scene is somehow muted. Does anyone know how I can fix this? I was thinking it could be a compatibility issue / problem with AE compressing audio as maybe the file is too large. Any help appreciated
How many audio channels are in your audio file? AE only supports mono or stereo. So if you've ended up with something like 4 channels, perhaps the dialogue is in one of the channels AE doesn't currently support.

Hi @lily!!
@jenkmeister pointed out the likely issue.
If your audio is multi-channel, you'll want to jump over to Premiere Pro or Audition and either split the channels to separate files then import the splits back into After Effects or export a mixdown for reference on the After Effects side.

Glad that helped. Thanks for updating the thread. Moving this thread from Bugs to Discussions for troubleshooting.
Thanks,
