On page 241 of the 2017 AE Classroom in a Book publication the instructions call out for making certain changes in the New Composition from Selection menu. How do I invoke this menu screen. When I drag an object to the Create a New Composition button, it simply creates a new composition and does not bring up this menu as outlined in the book. The Composition settings Menu does not have the settings I need in the New Composition from Selection menu so I cannot correctly do the outlined exercise. I sent a survey to Adobe Press about the lack of detail in this series.
If anybody knows another way to access the New Composition from Selection menu (second screen shot), please post here.
Thank you,
Chris

You open the composition settings from the Menu or by using the keyboard Ctrl/Cmnd + k. These are basics that were covered much earlier in the book and are right there in the help files.

AE CC2018 has a couple of new thingies in the Composition Area when you first launch AE and you do not have an opened composition. So, if you have AE in a blank state and start importing footage, you can drag and drop selected footage from the Project Panel onto the New Composition from Footage button OR drag and drop the selected footage onto the Create a New Composition icon at the bottom right of the Project Panel. Either method will invoke the New Composition from Selection dialog window.

I figured it out, you have to select more than one object for the dialogue box to come up. Otherwise you cannot sequence layers. This is probably the most rewarding part of the learning process, you struggle for a bit then you finally come up with a solution. Thanks!
