I tried importing a .glb file, but AE reads it as a .fla file for some reason. Why does this happen? What am I doing wrong?

Hi takizoliYT,

Thanks for writing in.

The feature to import 3D objects in After Effects is in the beta version. You can install the beta version if you'd like to try it. Here's how: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/x-productkb/global/creative-cloud-beta.html

Feel free to reach out if there are any other questions.

Thanks,

Nishu

This is not a bug or any of that. GLB is a Web GL package, which AE can't use, anyway, since it doesn't have such functions to render the interactive content. You seem to misunderstand the workflow. You have to use the OBJ fiel and render it via Cineware or Element 3D if you have this plug-in.

Oh, sorry. Must be one of those recent changes I wasn't aware of because I never use CA. Anyway, as a start I'd reinstall all the programs in the latest versions with sufficient user privileges. That sounds like those annoying issues where even a minor version difference stoips things from working.

Thanks, I thought that it was already in since no one mentioned that it's a beta feature.

I confirm that the Beta AE imports 3D objects almost of any kind. I tried .fla and .glb - no problem at all.

I can import .GLB files into the project, but when I drag onto the scene it I get the attached error. Any ideas? Thank you in advanced.

It's a known issue. They say it's about the assets, so I would try and reconverted the .glb to some other format. Also look here https://community.adobe.com/t5/after-effects-discussions/unexpected-match-name-searched-for-in-group...

Thank you! I appreciate the link I will check it out. I've tried GLB and OBJ no luck.
