Can you import a reference frame manually for Content Aware Fill?

I'm trying to use After Effects to remove some text from a video. When I try to use Content Aware Fill, clicking create reference frame opens Photoshop 2022, even though I have '24 installed. Can I somehow create the frame in 24 and tell After Effects to use it (like exporting it as a .png or something)? For some reason, I cannot for the life of me get it to open in '24 and I'd like to use that because of the more advanced tools, but it just won't open.

Fix your system's file associations - manually or by reinstalling PS 24.
