Cannot manipulate text in a template

I downloaded an after effects template and i am trying to chnage the text layers but it is ot working.  i double click on the layer and type the new text but it does not show and the original text is still there

It is because you have your text layer and above you have your text layer converted to shape layers (why? Don't ask me but if someune put it like that that mean that it have to be like that). So to change that you have to:
a) deete that shape layer (layer with star symbol) that is above your text
b) change your text layer
c) convert your new text layer into shape layer (select your text layer then Layer>Create>Create Shapes from text

Thank you so much, such a simple thing.  all i did was delete the shape layer.  I thnk they were just there as the example (why i dont know) it was just cofusing me.  Thanks again!!
