I just received a brand new Mac Studio (M1 Ultra, 64Gb Ram, - pretty maxed out) there's literally nothing on it besides the Adobe apps so far. I updated to the latest AE / Media Encoder etc.
I experience a significant lag any time I go between menus/shelves:
Starting with a new project in AE, I feel there's a significant lag on everything I do. if I click on the "Rectangle Tool" (Q) icon it takes a good half second to a second to register the click. If I then click Selection Tool (V) it takes another second to register. I then click back to the "Rectangle tool" and its now instant and I can click back and forth between the 2 without a lag.
If I then click on any layer in my project window, It takes a second to register and select the layer.. then if I select a different layer, its instant. Then if I click back to the "Rectangle tool" (Q) it takes another second as if it has to "load" that menu shelf again. its really odd. I was on an iMac Pro before and never had that issue.
any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi there!
Sorry about the lagging issue. Have you already tried resetting preferences and deleting cache files?
Let us know if this helps.
Thanks,
Kartika

Hi Kartika.
Thanks for replying.
Yes, I tried both. neither helped. I did a quick screen recording (attached here) so you can see the issue for yourself.
In my recording, up till 2:25 - im struggling to import an image sequence into after effects causing lockups.
after 2:25 - notice the second long+ delay when just clicking the "effects" menu bar. and other menus- this is the type of delay im talking about. It happens when doing pretty much anything.
not working off any external drives and its only in after effects im experiencing this issue.
It's almost impossible to get any work done on this.
thanks
Adam

Hi Adam,
Thanks for sharing the screen recording.
What's the exact version of After Effects you're using? Please try updating it if it's not already. If that doesn't fix the issue -
Let us know how it goes.
Thanks,
Nishu

Hi Nishu.
reason it took me a few days to reply to this is because I wanted to really test it out for a bit.
I tried disc access first, this did not help.
then I ran AE using Rosetta.
And I think doing that defenitely helped with the delay, - its better but still definitely not Perfect - which is strange. You would think it would be either/ or.
But but now I'm getting complete freezes quite often.. where AE stops completely, I get the "spinning ball of death" and then a few seconds later spinning ball freezes completely - (all other apps still run fine) so I have to force quit AE, not giving me a chance to save or recover. This did not happen before I ran AE using Rosetta.

Actually now that im sitting using AE, creating new solid layers / clicking on the shape layer icon, it still has mostly the same amount of lag as before.

Why am I not able to edit my entries? lol.
I guess whats not obvious from the video, because it does not record keyboard inputs - but you can see before the 2 BB's show up, theres about a 3 second delay from when i clicked BB on the keyboard.
Also, when I select the first type layer in my hirachy at the beginning of the video, notice the aprox half second delay.

@nishu_kush I had to "uncheck" Run using Rosetta - it caused AE to freeze up and crash every couple of minutes without the opportunity to save, preventing me from getting any work done at all.

I too am having the same issue. How did you uncheck Run using Rosetta

From the posts I didn't see if your issue was resolved.
