According to your screenshot, your layer isn't 3D, so I'm not sure what you expect. Of course a 2D layer won't show up in alternate views just like having a white solid on top of a white background without any shading would not show up. it seems you are fundamentally misunderstanding something here. As far as I can see there is otherwise nothing wrong.

It also looks like you are trying to use After Effects to edit a sequence. You will have more luck if you create your composites in After Effects and edit in Premiere Pro. My average comp is under seven seconds. I worked on a seven second comp the other day that had about 200 layers if you expand all of the nested comps. Putting each shot that can't be cut in a NLE in a separate comp, rendering them and editing the final movie in an NLE like Premiere Pro will almost always take a lot less time than trying to cut something that is a couple of minutes long in AE.
