Hello, I'm working through Classroom in a Book 2022 excercises and in Ch. 3, I have a project that is 13 sec long and I'm importing a file that is 3 sec long and not taking the duration of the project. I've checked the psd file if their was a timeline attached to it and there isn't. I've even recreated the simple psd file from scratch and it's still at 3 sec. Is there somewhere in the preferences I'm not look at?
Ok, I got it to work. I cleared the preferences while starting AE. Yay me!
Preferences/Import - Still Footage - Length of Composition would do it. The shortcut for Preferences is Alt/Option + Ctrl/Cmnd + ;

Glad you got it sorted and Rick's right about the overall solution, but should you find yourself in a situation where the PSD is too short for your composition, it's worth knowing that the PSD file gets imported into AE as a composition. You can double-click on the PSD layer to go into that comp and then use Composition > Composition Settings to adjust the duration.
OR
With the layer selected, you can go to Layer > Time > Enable Time Remapping, which will then allow you to extend the PSD layer
