Dynamic link with AE

I uploaded a clip to after effects from premiere pro using dynamic link. I set an in and out point on a 44 second clip so the clip lasted 3 seconds with the in and out points. I put that 3 second clip into after effects. To see what happened I wanted to use dynamic link with the 3 second clip from after effects to audition. When I had a multitrack set up for that 3 second clip, the whole 44 second clip uploaded. I tried adjusting the work area in AE to see if it would only send what was inside of it but that didn't change anything. Is this normal or is there a way to change this?
