Hi,

I have discovered what seems to be a bug in the new release of After Effects. (18.2)

When trying to edit an old file (135x135), I was surprised to see all graphics being “invisible” - Shape layers, images, texts etc.. Although no settings indicating that it should be.

After som investigation, I found that when changing from Full resolution to Half, it reappears. Same with Third and Quarter resolution.

Changing the canvas height (1 up/down) also makes the graphics reappear (eg. 135x136).

Changing the width only, doesn’t seem to work for at least values ranging from 129 to 144. (eg. 129x135 or 144x135).

Same problem seems to occour when working in the following sizes:

192x192

160x160

135x135

128x128

120x120

96x96

64x64

I have tested in both Catalina and Big Sur (Mac).

Have you tried anything similar, and where can i repport this?

Christian

Hi Christian,

Thanks for writing in.

Is it the Composition size of the media size that you have mentioned? I tried with both and it seems to be working fine. Could you share your system specifications (CPU, GPU, RAM) and the steps to repro it? If possible, please share a project file as well.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Nishu

Hi Nishu,

Thanks for the reply!

The issue occures when changing the Composition size.
I have tested on two different machines:

MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019)
macOS Catalina Version 10.15.7

2,6 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7

16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4

AMD Radeon Pro 5300M 4 GB

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017)
macOS Big Sur Version 11.3.1

4,2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7

40 GB 2400 MHz DDR4

Radeon Pro 580 8 GB

The issue only occures in After Effects 18.2
I have added a test-project and screenshots.

Thank you very much for your time.

Best regards
Christian

Thanks for sharing the details and project files, Christian.

I tested the project at my end and it looks completely normal even at Full resolution. Check out the screenshot.

Are you using any third-party plug-in which is installed on both machines?

Things you can check:

  1. Change the renderer to Software Only (go to File > Project Settings).
  2. Disable Hardware Accelerated Composition, Layer, and Footage Panels from After Effects Preferences > Display.

Let us know the results.

Thanks.

Hello,

I am having the exact same issue. One of my shape layer randomly disappears then reappears with no settings or keyframes to indicate it should.

Tried changing the settings you mentioned above with no success.

Thank you,

Yael
